Hong Kong Hotels in June

Crowne Plaza Hong Kong

The Crowne Plaza continues its tradition of contemporary, accommodating hotels in Kowloon East, Hong Kong.  This towering 359-room hotel features modern air-conditioned rooms with wonderful views of the city.  The hotel has a number of restaurants on-site, including a traditional Cantonese restaurant and a renowned rooftop Italian restaurant with breathtaking views.  On rainy days you can check out the nearby PopCorn Shopping Mall; if you're ready to venture out further in the city the Tseung Kwan O MTR station is literally downstairs from the hotel.  Take a refreshing dip in their outdoor swimming pool or enjoy some special treatment in one of their spa rooms.

Burlington Hotel

Another affordable hotel good for June is the Burlington Hotel.  If you're looking for some more rainy-day options near the hotel, you'll find them here.  While the hotel doesn't have the most phenomenal views, it is right next to some of the best nightlife, shopping, and other entertainment venues in the Wan Chai district.  The Burlington Hotel is on the smaller side with 163 modern, air-conditioned rooms.  If you're in Hong Kong on business, the hotel is also very close to the convention center, and the nearest MTR station is just a few minutes walk.

Mira Hong Kong

The 492-room luxury Mira Hong Kong in the Tsim Sha Tsui district is guaranteed to give you some excellent views of Hong Kong; almost every single room has looks over something spectacular.  In addition to the views, the Mira is home to six total bars and restaurants, including the Cuisine Center and WHISK, which have won awards and are frequently visited by non-guests. The Mira is very close to Kowloon Park and is ideally located near some of Hong Kong's best shopping and entertainment.  All rooms feature modern amenities, and the hotel has a pool, spa, and gym on-site.

Dorsett Kwun Tong

Bars and Restaurants

Beef & Liberty Burgers Lan Kwai Fong

Lan Kwai Fong is a very recognizable square near Causeway Bay that features hundreds of bars and restaurants.  One of those is Beef & Liberty Burgers, perhaps the best burgers in the city.  The restaurant is located on the third floor of the Central California Tower and serves brunch, lunch, and dinner.  They serve more than just traditional beef burgers; their pulled pork burgers and soft shell crab burgers are also very popular, and they make a mean chicken sandwich as well.  They can get extremely busy on the weekends.  It seems everyone is there for a good burger, great drinks, and great ambiance.  They're open for lunch during the week from 12PM-3PM and for dinner from 6PM-11PM except they stay open until 2AM on Friday night.  On the weekends they're open from 12PM-2AM on Saturday and 12PM-10PM on Sunday.

One Dim Sum Chinese Restaurant

Hong Kong is known for the Chinese dumplings called dim sum, and if you want the best, check out One Dim Sum.  This popular restaurant is located in the Mong Kok district.  Expect to wait for a table, but you'll be glad you did.  You'll fill out your order on a piece of paper while you wait outside and then be served quickly once at your table.  It's a casual no-frills experience, but it's one of a kind and the food is cheap too.  If you're not there for dim sum, you'll find other delicious traditional Chinese fare as well.  One Dim Sum opens at 10AM on weekends and 10:30AM on weekdays, and they close at 12:30AM every night.

Man Wah

For a more elegant Asian dining experience you'll want to spend an evening at Man Wah Mandarin Oriental.  The décor and the views alone are worth going into this high-rise restaurant in Central Hong Kong.  But the food is really what makes this restaurant stand out from the rest.  This Michelin-starred restaurant serves up fine Cantonese dishes with the freshest ingredients and boldest flavors the chefs can offer.  The Man Wah is an easy 100-meter walk from the Central MTR station.  Dinner is served from 6:30PM until 10PM.  They are also open for their delicious dim sum lunch from 12PM-2:30PM Monday through Friday, and 11:30AM-3PM Saturday and Sunday.  The managers request that you refrain from wearing shorts, and they also note that only children age 6 and above are welcome Monday through Friday.

Kowloon Taproom

The Kowloon Taproom is one of the best bars in Tsim Sha Tsui.  This casual English-style pub is the place to go when you need to try out a variety of local & international beers, from light ales to hoppy IPAs to creamy stouts.  They serve a traditional pub menu with saucy wings, delicious sandwiches, and they're known for their fish and chips.  Grab a table next to the window and watch the hustle and bustle outside as you relax in this casual, cozy pub.  The Kowloon Taproom is open daily from 1:00PM to 2:00AM.

Things to do in Hong Kong in June

Hong Kong Museum of History

If you're getting cabin fever by hiding from the rain in your hotel room, head over to the Hong Kong Museum of History.   This impressive museum takes you on a journey of the history of Hong Kong, from prehistoric times up to present day.  The exhibits are constructed as large walk-through reconstructions, enhancing your experience and understanding of that exhibit.  The museum is organized very well in time periods, allowing you to easily see what you're interested in without having to pick your way through all the rest.  There is enough here where you could spend the entire day, or just a few hours.  The museum is located in the Tsim Sha Tsui district and is closed on Tuesdays.  Other weekday hours are from 10AM-6PM.  Weekend hours are from 10AM-7PM.

Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens

When the weather is clear and you're ready for a break from the city, you'll really enjoy walking through the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens.  This property isn't a zoo as you think of in the conventional sense; it's more of a park with beautiful landscaping and small collections of animals scattered throughout.  It's free to visitors and open daily from 6AM-10PM, and its location in Central Hong Kong provides an easy escape.  The collection of birds is particularly amazing.  This park provides a wonderful opportunity for a relaxing, peaceful walk through a well-maintained park.

Ham Tin Wan Beach

There are a lot of different beaches in Sai Kung, and a wonderful recommendation is Ham Tin Wan.  This beach is known for its fine white sand and crystal clear turquoise waters.  The water temperature in June is a warm 29°C but it's still refreshing.  Ham Tin Wan has facilities where you can rent gear for watersports and camping.  There are also some restaurants with a decent selection of foods and alcoholic beverages.  The easiest way to get to Ham Tin Wan beach is to take the MTR to Hang Hau followed by a minibus to Sai Kung Town.  From there, a water taxi will take you to Ham Tin Wan beach.  You could also hike there, but the heat and humidity may not make that desirable in June.

Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

A really fun June activity, mandatory for tourists, is the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival.  This ancient tradition takes place in Victoria Harbor around mid-June; check the website for current dates.  The highlight of the festival is the long, colorful rowboats with elaborate dragon heads at the front.  These boats contain approximately 20 paddlers each, all working in fanatic unison to the beat of each boat's drummer in some intense races.  The three-day festival also has a wonderful layout of international food & beer tents, as well as some water games to help you cool off in the summer heat.
