What's the weather like in Guardalavaca in August

August is still peak summertime in Guardalavaca, so you can expect the beaches to be thronging with tourists who are enjoying the sun and topping up their tans. If you do not want to join them you can always go spend some time in the pool at your hotel though of course, with average sea temperatures of 29°C, you might find it hard to stay away.

Temperature

The sun is blissfully hot, in this month just as much as it is for the whole of the summer season. Daily temperature will stay around an average of 27°C, but you can also expect it to get much hotter on an individual daily basis. The average highs go up to 31°C, with lows only dropping as far as 23°C. It is definitely a great time to visit the island if you want to save room in your suitcase for souvenirs by throwing out anything but the lightest of summer clothes!

Cuba is a very popular destination, but even so, it's easy to see why this popular area has become loved by tourists. If you head even slightly inland, such as to the city of Holguin, you will find temperatures dropping lower on average and a shorter day. Out here on the coast, 10 hours of sunshine can be expected daily.

Rainfall

You will, however, need to keep an eye on the forecast, as there is a certain degree of risk that you might end up getting wet otherwise. The rain falls down this month fairly heavily, with 11 days of rain accounting for 132mm of water. It is still down from the wettest month in June, and even from September that follows on, but you will still need to be aware and to be prepare for a downpour. If this happens, you may be best off sheltering inside until it passes on.

Guardalavaca Hotels for August

For August, it's a good choice to try the Hostal La Roca Holguinera. This is a budget hotel with only basic amenities, but with the weather still good, you're more likely to spend time outside of the hotel anyway. It's a welcoming property with hand-painted murals in the hallways. There are only three rooms to rent, so your stay will be a quiet and private one.

Or how about the Cadillac? There are a couple of different beaches only a short distance away, including the Playa Guardalavaca. Plus there is a nature park right on your doorstep. The property is designed with a vintage and historic feel, so you will certainly know that you are in Cuba.

If you are looking for a tranquil and comfortable stay, try Las Tunas. Situated just a short drive from the beach, it offers fully furnished rooms that may be your new home from home. It will also work well for those who are operating on a smaller budget.

Guardalavaca Beaches in August

The average sea temperatures of 29°C make it just about essential that you head down to the beach more than a couple of times during your trip. There is a very beautiful beach nearby which will allow you to really indulge yourself whenever you decide to go: the Playa Pesquero. It is a 900 metre long stretch of glowing white sand, sun-kissed and at this time of year especially very hot.

The tide comes in to about one and a half feet, so you can stay there quite safely all day long if you wish to. Always make sure to look out for the markers which tell you how rough the sea may be, just in case of tropical storm winds making the waves choppy and powerful. Generally speaking, however, this is a pleasant beach where you can swim or simply relax and sunbathe.

Bars and Restaurants

El Ancla is a restaurant in a great location. A short walk up wide stone steps carved from the rock cliff will bring you to views out over the water of the bay, where you can naturally buy seafood and Cuban dishes. The prices are very good, and live musicians will serenade you while you eat.

La Maison Restaurant is also right by the sea, and serves very traditional food. This means that you should be surprised to find an octopus in your paella! Big portions and great service characterise this restaurant, which is known particularly for its lobster dishes.

Pizza Nova is literally on the sands of the beach, so you can walk up in your swimsuit for lunch if you want. The pizza here is cheap but delicious, with lots of different toppings to choose from. Pizzas are made to order while you wait, and since this is one of the most popular pizza places in the area, you may have to wait in line.

Things to do in Guardalavaca in August

You can take a horse and buggy ride very easily in Guardalavaca, as there are lots of locals who will be waiting to take you around the area. A ride can last around 45 minutes and will show you all of the highlights of this town. You can use this as a great way to see everything without having to walk around in the August heat! Augustino's Horse N Buggy is one company that operates in the area.

There is also both a sugar factory and a cigar factory in the nearby town of Holguin. You can take a tour to check these out and of course visit the guest shops, or you can simply admire them from the outside. These are big powers in the local economy and provide a lot of jobs for the residents here, making some of the exports that Cuba is famous for. The sugar factory is no longer operational, but is preserved as a local landmark.
