Temperature

While there is still some disturbed days in Gozo in May,the weather at this time of the year is traditionally glorious. Average temperatures of 19°C ensure the feeling of summer is in the air and everyone wants to get out and enjoy it. As May ends, Gozo moves into summer in earnest, with daily temperatures climbing from 19°C at the beginning of the month to a sensational 22°C by the time May is done.

Apart from the three key summer months of June, July, and August, Gozo also enjoys more daylight sun hours in May that at any other time of the year. A standard day in May will offer up to 12 hours of sunshine, to ensure you can make the most of every moment.

Highs of up to 23°C are expected during the first of the warmer months in Gozo, however in the very warmest times, temperatures in May have reached over 39°C, with the warmest May on record occurring in 1998. Marsalforn Bay

Marsalforn Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Gozo. It is popular with swimmers, sunbathers, divers and snorkelers, especially in May when the beaches are at their cleanest. The many summer houses surrounding the beach are occupied all season long by a combination of renters and local owners.  For the more active, the beach also offers wide variety of water sports directly from the beach. And thanks to its natural shelter and relatively shallow waters, it is the perfect place to take children too.

Dahlet Qorrot

For a quieter beach experience, opt to visit the smaller location of Dahlet Qorrot in Nadur, especially on weekdays in May. This secluded pebbly beach offers the perfect place to swim off of the rocks into the clear blue Mediterranean Sea and enjoy a spot of diving or snorkelling. Things to Do in Gozo in May

Azure Window

Nature has built its own viewing port at the Azure Window, and the view is incredible. Standing 328 feet high, this natural phenomenon in the rocks of south Gozo is one of the most popular attractions in Gozo and boasts millions of visitors every year. By visiting in May, you can enjoy all the wonderful sights of the region without the crowds. Watch locals jump off of the cliffs to discover the wonders of the Blue Hole beneath. Or enjoy a relaxing drink at the Indoor Sea whilst taking in one of nature's most spectacular sights.

St. Paul's Shipwreck

While St Paul's Shipwreck traditionally falls on 10th February in Gozo, to take advantage of the improved weather, it is celebrated on the third Sunday of May in il-Munxar. These celebrations centre on the baroque-style temple that was dedicated to the saint in 1926 and has been a focal point for the feast ever since. Join in the festivities and celebrations which culminate in a procession around the church and a display of fireworks in the evening.
