Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) 🖼
Organised by the Ionian University’s Department of Audio and Visual Arts, this ten-day event transforms Corfu Town into a hub for contemporary creativity. It features exhibitions, screenings, performances, interactive installations, and student showcases blending technology and art. While its 2026 programme is not yet formally published, it traditionally takes place in early to mid-May. For visitors, it’s a rare chance to see Corfu at the cutting edge of digital and experimental art.

Unification of the Ionian Islands Celebration 🏞
Each year on 21 May, Corfu joins the rest of the Ionian Islands in commemorating their union with Greece in 1864. Corfu Town becomes the centre of activity, with colourful parades, official ceremonies, marching bands and people dressed in traditional Ionian costume. It’s both a patriotic holiday and a cultural showcase, reflecting the island’s historical importance. Visitors can expect a festive atmosphere across the island, especially in the main square and historic centre.
