The month of June is a rainy one in Colombo. It falls right in the middle of the first rainy season in the island's Capital, and as such, most tourists move towards other parts of the country. However, this would still be ideal time to visit the Sri Lanka's capital as one can take advantage of the low off-peak rates, which may be half what other resorts on other parts of the country may be offering.

Things to do in Colombo in June

June is a relatively quiet month, at least in Sri Lankan standards as there is only one major festival. During this month, The Sri Lankans celebrate the Ponson festival.

The festival is to celebrate the day the nation was converted to Buddhism.

As it is in the middle of the low season, tourists will generally be able to have a more productive visit to the coastal city as the rates won't be as high as they would be in peak season. Furthermore, the streets won't be as crowded and the tourists will be able to move about with ease.

Therefore, this would be an ideal time to visit the Fort Railway station. The station is a brilliant example of British-Indian architecture of the late 17th century and is sure to fascinate anyone interested in art.

Recently, the station has been used in a number of Indian and international movies.
