Dress Code

The temperatures in Abu Dhabi in February are comfortable to slightly chilly at night, so you'll want to bring a light jacket or sweater if you're out late.  The dress code, however, dictates how you'll really pack.  Women may wear loose short-sleeve shirts as long as the shoulders are covered and don't expose midriff.  The knees must also be covered.  Men may wear short sleeve shirts and it is customary to wear long pants, as shorts are really only worn at the beach.  Women may wear a conservative two-piece bikini at the beaches.  If women are entering a mosque, they are only permitted to show their hands and faces.  For a better idea of expected conditions, check the Abu Dhabi extended forecast right before you leave on your trip.

Yas Island Rotana

Yas Island Rotana is a modern four-star hotel in Yas Plaza, on Yas Island.  This chic hotel features 308 standard rooms and suites with plush beds and modern bathrooms with granite countertops.  Upgraded rooms and suites also offer separate living areas, balconies, and outstanding marina views.  Hotel guests may take advantage of the complimentary transfer to attractions on the island, as well as the gym, tennis courts, spa, and outdoor pool with swim-up bar.  This hotel also offers dining at a superb steakhouse, as well as a swanky lounge bar.  The hotel is less than 1km from Yas Beach.

Courtyard By Marriott World Trade Center

The Courtyard By Marriott is a contemporary four-star hotel connected to Abu Dhabi's World Trade Center in the business district.  This highly reviewed hotel has 186 rooms of all sizes and also has nine suites for longer stays and larger accommodations.  Rooms feature comfortable premium bedding, flatscreen TVs, free WiFi, and marble bathrooms. The Marriott has one international bistro serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a casual café serving lunch and dinner, and a rooftop lounge serving drinks and appetizers. Other amenities include a fitness centre and rooftop outdoor pool. Courtyard by Marriott is within walking distance to a number of great restaurants and shops in the business district.

Rosewood Abu Dhabi

Rosewood Abu Dhabi is one of Abu Dhabi's sleekest five-star hotels.  The striking architecture compliments the ultrachic interior for an unforgettable experience.  Rosewood offers 154 spacious, modern rooms with deluxe linens, marble bathrooms, and rain showers.  Suites are also available with panoramic views, living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchenettes.

Yas Island Marina Beach

Yas Beach is a popular beach in Abu Dhabi featuring a number of activities for everyone.  Admission to the beach is free for guests staying at any of Yas Island's hotels; the beach is open to the public but for a small fee.  Other than sun tanning, beach goers will find volleyball courts, an outdoor gym, and boat rentals for sailboats, kayaks, jet skis, and standup paddleboards.  Chairs and umbrellas are available for rent.  There is also a pool at Yas Beach with a lounge area and DJ.  Yas Beach is surrounded by great restaurants, snack shops, and stores.

Bars and Restaurants

The Terrace on the Corniche

The St. Regis Abu Dhabi's signature restaurant is the acclaimed Terrace on the Corniche, a casual international restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch.  The dining room is bright and vibrant, and the restaurant also offers patio terrace seating.  The Terrace menu features flavorful international dishes and Middle Eastern plates for breakfast and lunch.  Dinners are exceptionally fun as theatrical culinary stations serve Middle Eastern classic dishes, accompanied by locally inspired Arabic music.  The Terrace on Corniche is a great place to take the kids.  Hours are from 6:30AM to 11PM with breaks between meals.

Selections Restaurant

Selections is located on the third floor of the InterContinental and promises great views of the marina or beach from almost every table in the restaurant.  This casual restaurant is open from breakfast to dinner and serves a buffet-style dining experience suitable for everyone, including the kids.  Here you'll find the standard continental breakfast, French toast, and pancakes; lunches include club sandwiches, wagyu burgers, soups, and salads.  These are only the staples, the restaurant also serves an enormous rotating selection of other international and Arabic foods like sushi, crab, duck, roast beef, and a large selection of salads.  Selections is open daily from 6:30AM to 10:30PM.

Sayad Seafood Restaurant

Sayad means "fisherman" in Arabic, and that describes this restaurant well.  Sayad is a wonderful seafood restaurant located in Emirates Palace.  The ambience, from the lighting to the colors to the aquariums, makes guests feel as if they're under the sea.  Dining is also available on their outdoor terrace and provides great views of the Arabian Gulf.  Some of the fresh seafood you'll find here includes king crab rolls, lobster ravioli, fried calamari, grilled octopus, and salt crusted sea bass.  Other foods are available as well, such as steaks and lamb.  Sayad is open daily from 6:30PM to 11:30PM and accepts reservations.

Desert Lotus Thai Bistro & Sushi

Desert Lotus Thai Bistro & Sushi is one of Abu Dhabi's top-rated restaurants.  Desert Lotus is located in the One to One hotel near central Abu Dhabi.  Numerous reviews claim that this is some of the best Thai food outside of Thailand.  All of the plates are made with obviously fresh ingredients, adding to the slightly higher prices.  Favorite dishes include the pad thai, curries, mango sticky rice, and all of the sushi rolls.  A vegetarian menu is also available.  Desert Lotus is open Sunday through Wednesday from 12PM to 4PM and then from 6PM to 10PM, and Thursday through Saturday from 12PM to 10:45PM.

Things to do in Abu Dhabi in February

Sheikh Zayed Mosque

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and one of the most beautiful mosques in the world, known for its gorgeous architecture, marble, gold, and ornate chandeliers.  The mosque can accommodate 40,000 worshippers.  The mosque features 82 domes, the largest hand-woven carpet in the world, a large library with rare collections, and is surrounded by beautiful reflecting pools.  This mosque is unique in that it is open daily to visitors, except on Friday mornings, which are reserved for worship.  Visiting times are from 9AM to 10PM Saturday through Thursday and 4:30PM to 10PM on Friday.  If you visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque please dress appropriately; dresses are available for women who do not have the appropriate attire.

Kayaking Eastern Mangroves National Park

Eastern Mangroves National Park is a nice contrast to the surrounding desert of Abu Dhabi.  This vast mangrove forest is full of narrow channels, many of which can only be explored by kayak.  Exploring the mangroves will take you through an amazing ecosystem, full of birds like beautiful herons, crabs, shoals of fish, and even jellyfish.  Kayaks may be rented for self-guided tours, but you'll learn more by hiring one of the many tour guides available.  If you're in Abu Dhabi during a full moon, there are also moonlit tours that offer a very unique experience.

Ferrari World

Sports car lovers and any other adrenaline seeker will love a day at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.  This is the world's first Ferrari theme park and is located on Yas Island.  Ferrari World is home to the fastest roller coaster in the world, the Formula Rossa ride that reaches speeds of 240 km/h.  It's not for the faint hearted! There are some more tame rides available, like go-karts and simulators, as well as many attractions for the kids.  Ferrari World also offers shows and Ferrari assembly tours.  Ferrari World is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11AM to 6PM, Thursday & Friday from 11AM to midnight, and Saturday from 11AM to 11PM.

Emirates Park Zoo

The Emirates Park Zoo offers a grand wildlife experience just outside of Abu Dhabi.  The grounds are well maintained and offer clean facilities for both guests and the animals.  Animals housed at the park include monkeys, giraffes, elephants, camels, and a number of reptiles.  There are some great exhibits for children as well, including a petting zoo and playground.  Various animal shows and feedings also take place throughout the zoo. Emirates Park Zoo is open Sunday through Wednesday from 9AM to 8PM and Thursday & Friday from 9AM to 9PM.  If you don't have a rental car, transportation to and from can be tricky and may need to be arranged through your hotel.
