May Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

May has fewer days of rain and higher temperatures than April, while also having 9 hours of sun on average per day, so there's plenty to love about the month, including much time at the beach.

The better weather is truly taken advantage of, as there a host of activities to enjoy throughout May.

The start of the month sees the famous Rip Curl English Surf Championships, which is a surfing competition on Fistral Beach and spectators can witness some of the British Isles' most gifted surfers showing their skills.

Also in the early part of the month is Padstor Obby Osss, which is apparently the most historical dance festival of its type in England, and it has a very strong Celtic theme.

In the middle of the month is Daphne du Maurier Festival, which occurs 26 miles away from Newquay in Fowey. It's a 10-day event with screen and stage stars and also includes music concerts.

In addition to that, the festival showcases local talent with performers across Cornwall as well as guided walks for those who want to take in the local scenery.

As if that wasn't enough, late May sees the famous Run to the Sun Festival for VW fanatics to come together. This festival has DJs, discos, comedians and live music, with crowds of up to 40,000 people.

When looking for a place to stay, Newquay's Premier Inn offers a low budget option for any travellers worried about their wallets.
