Lyon is one of the jewels of east-central France. It is located squarely in France's old wine country and boasts many fine wineries.

During May, temperatures generally get as high as 20°C (68°F) which is perfect for tourists who wish to stroll around the city and examine the sights.

At night temperatures drop to around 9°C or 48°F, which is cool but still comfortable.

May sees an average precipitation accumulation amount of about 69mm or close to 3 inches spread across 12 to 13 days of the month.

Tourists can expect to experience an average of 9 hours of sunshine per day.

Back in 15th century when silk weaving was still a popular trade, the production warehouses were located at Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon). Then in 19th century, the Passage Thiaffait, or passageways known as traboules, were created to make it easier for the canuts to deliver their products to different shops located at Croix-Rousse Hill to selling merchants.

This area has been restored and is now being used as a focal point for jewellery-making and fashion. It's an excellent area for finding designer jewellery and clothing, as well as generally exploring and viewing the fascinating architecture of the old buildings in the vicinity.

If you are on holiday with the kids, the Musée des Miniatures et Décors de Cinéma (Museum of Miniatures and Cinema Décor) in the Old Lyon district is a must see. The museum showcases miniature artistic décor by world renowned artist Dan Ohlmann. Many of the miniature models on display have been used in movies as props and sets. It's a very fascinating look at an art form that isn't as well known as it should be and the museum offers year-long exhibits that the whole family will enjoy.

The Hotel des Savoies which is located in central Lyon, is the perfect spot from which to launch out and explore the city. Holiday travellers will find the hotel pleasant and suitable for an inexpensive alternative to the much higher priced hotels in other parts of the city.

The hotel offers free Wi-Fi internet access, room service, small but clean rooms with comfortable beds and modern restroom facilities. There is free parking on the street in front of the hotel but the convenient location of the train station means that travellers without a vehicle will still be able to traverse the city without difficulty.
