January is the coldest month of the year in Golden Sands. Strong winds come down from Russia and across the Black Sea contain a chill.
Warm winter clothing such as big jumpers and overcoats would be essential at this time of year. There is also a strong chance of rain so an umbrella would also be a good idea.
Golden Sands is of course famed for its miles of beautiful beaches, and on a clear day you can spend a lovely afternoon strolling along the seafront.
Although Golden Sands is a purpose built holiday resort, many hotels remain open all year round and are quite cheap during the winter months.
And there is still plenty to see and do in the area.
Nature lovers will enjoy the Golden Sands Nature Park, situated in the hills just behind the main resort and spanning over 3000 acres. This protected area is home to huge array of plant life and wildlife, and can be enjoyed with a hike or a jeep safari. Guides are on hand to give you more information about the area.
Sporty holiday makers will be spoilt for choice with the number of activities on offer. There are over 30 tennis courts, several recently built golf courses and even a paintballing centre!
For a taste of local history you can visit Perperikon and see the ruins of a palace dating from the 13th century BC. Archaeologists are continually unearthing more and more ancient treasures from the site.
And the pretty seaside town of Balchik contains a Historical Museum that contains many exhibits relating to the ancient history of the area.
If you're travelling with the family, you may want to try the Grifid Hotel Arabella. The all inclusive hotel offers great value for money and has many facilities for children, including a kids' club, playground and mini disco. There is also a spa for the adults.
