The temperature begins to cool down in Antigua in September. Guests can choose between 50 tastefully-decorated rooms, each of which features air conditioning, private patio and flat-screen TV. Due to the small price tag, services and facilities are limited to onsite restaurant, free WiFi access, fitness room and gift shop, with beauty salon, cinema and casino just a short walk away.

When it comes to a modern and comfortable hostel, Inn La Galleria is a top pick. Located on the hill above Deep Bay, this hostel is made up of only 12 rooms, each of which comes with air conditioning, satellite TV and en-suite bathroom. Antigua Beach for September

If you're looking for a beach perfect for relaxing, it's got to be Runaway Beach. Located on the north west of the island, this beach is made up of fine white sands and calm, clear waters which remain shallow very far out making them ideal for visitors of all ages to swim. On the white sandy beach you'll find sun loungers and parasols available to hire, plus a beach bar. If you get fed up of sunbathing, there are several walking trails and the Pillars of Hercules within the local area.

Bars and Restaurants

For Caribbean food in beachside surroundings, you can't beat the Bay at Nonsuch. Overlooking the Nonsuch Bay beach, this open-air restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and serves classic Caribbean dishes, such as pan-fried crab, jerk pork chop and steamed lobster. There is also a great selection of local and international wines available, most of which are only sold by the bottle. Diners can choose to pop in for one meal alone or sign up for the daily package which includes several drinks, meals and use of the beach facilities between 10am and 6pm.

Dennis Cocktail Bar & Restaurant is another eatery perfect for those who like to enjoy their meal with a view. Tucked below the peak of a hill with panoramic views of Ffryes Beach and Jolly Beach, this restaurant prides itself on Caribbean-style home-cooking, with dishes such as saltfish, curried goat, grilled lobster and island-grilled steak all appearing on the menu. On random occasions, Dennis Cocktail Bar & Restaurant hosts a huge pig roast which attracts people from all around the island. If you see this advertised and you're interested make sure you get there early before all the pork is gone!

If you're not sure what sort of food you're in the mood for, stop by Cafe Napoleon. Located in the heart of St Johns and set inside a rustic shack, this restaurant serves an eclectic mix of French Creole, European and Caribbean food, with continental breakfasts, sandwiches, salads and hot options, including fish and chops, coconut chicken curry and beef burgers appearing on the menu. The comprehensive drinks menu features an international selection of rum cocktails, coffee cocktails, beers, juices, waters and soft drinks.

Things to do in Antigua in September

Nelson's Dockyard is one of Antigua's most popular historic attractions. Here you'll find a mixture of modern and historic sites, including the Dockyard Museum which is home to model ships, English Harbour displays, prints, maps and trophies, and old buildings currently going through restoration, alongside cafes, restaurants, bars, shops and a marina full of superyachts. Because of its small size, you only need an hour or so to explore the whole area, making it suitable for families with young children who get bored easily.

If you enjoy visiting churches, check out St Peter's Church during your holiday in Antigua. Located at the harbour in Parham, this church is known for its remarkable interior design specifically the ribbed wooden ceiling and stucco walls. Even if you don't manage to time your visit so you get to experience a service, the church is always open to the public and is a beautiful thing to see, so make sure you take your camera.
