As the weather begins to warm up in April, a nice place to visit is the nearby beach of El Palmer bay, and stay at the Diverhotel Aguadulce hotel. This 4* resort overlooks the bay and has and outdoor pool with slide and hot tub. There is an all-inclusive restaurant with buffet meals and rooms have TV, balcony and sea views. Activities include mini golf, table tennis, bike hire and children's entertainment. Available rooms range from single to family sized accommodation.
Bars and Restaurants
For something different to the usual tapas bars, go to the city and try Ming Yuet restaurant for some Chinese cuisine. With fast, friendly service, helpful staff and high quality, traditional Chinese dishes, this is a nice alternative to Spanish cuisine when visiting the area. This venue provides great Cantonese food and is open for lunch and dinner.
For more local cuisine, El vivo en un Barco restaurant is a friendly, warm tapas bar located in the old town. The bar offers great value, well presented food, wine and beer as well as cocktails in an ambient setting. Located in a pedestrian area of the old town, this is a good spot for relaxing and people watching on warmer April afternoons.
Head to Mojacar beach for a night out at El Sitio, a cool, friendly bar that serves tapas, wine and beer overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This is a great daytime or evening venue with delicious food including cheeses and paella as well as an extensive wine list and cocktails. The restaurant also hosts wine and cheese tasting evenings and wine and tapas tasting.
Things to do in Almeria in April
For those seeking a little adventure on the cooler spring days, how about exploring the Sorbas caves? These caves are located in the Barrio de la Chanca in the old town and are a network of underground caves and tunnels with stalactites and stalagmites, accessed with a tour guide. Tours are offered for all levels of experience and equipment can be hired. There are still some families living in the hillside in cave-like dwellings and the area is another interesting part of the old town.
A beautiful place to explore is the Iglesia de la virgen del mar, a quiet church in the city centre, built in the nineteenth century. With exterior gardens and a peaceful interior with golden altarpiece and stained glass windows, this is a lovely change from the fast-paced city and beaches.
Visit the Cabo de Gata natural park. The end of the volcanic mountain ranges that stretches along the Spanish coast, this is an area of natural beauty with cliffs, coves and beaches for exploring and relaxing on. Walking along the coast, visitors will see varied flora and fauna and is perfect for active days in the sun.
