In the month of June, there are two major festivals celebrated in Sitges, Barcelona and they fall within days of each other. The first is St. John's holiday (San Juan), which is a national holiday marked throughout the country and falls on the 23rd to the 24th of the month. This holiday, which is the Spaniards' custom of officially welcoming the summer months, is vibrant and vivacious.

The hallmark of this holiday is fireworks in the evenings that form a brilliant display against the backdrop of mountains in the direction of Barcelona.

Barely a day later is the Corpus Christi festival. For this festival, the streets are closed to traffic for a day as neighbours work together to draw elaborate patterns on the roads and then decorate them with carnation petals. The procession of the Holy Sacrament passes over the decorations placed on the road as part of the festival, and a jury gives an award for the most intricate and alluring designs. Other events that take place on this day are: the Floral Decoration of Facades and Balconies Competition; National Carnation Exhibition; and the Bonsai Exhibition.
