What's the Weather Like in Ko Lanta in June
The warm weather continues in Ko Lanta in June. And though there is the increased chance of rain, there is still nowhere near the precipitation levels seen in the wettest months of September and October.
In fact, during June, only 12 days of the month are likely to see any rain at all. And because, it is in the low season, there is plenty of space to enjoy the sun.
Temperature
Every day the temperature is likely to reach an average high of 32°C. And even when it does rain, it is unlikely that the daily climate will fall far below the average daily temperature of 29°C.
Humidity
Even at night, the weather is still very warm. But with the increased level of cloud and the rain volume, it can feel distinctly humid. Average humidity at this time of the year is usually just over 80%. Although the increase in the level of wind, especially during a monsoon, can bring a much fresher feel to the island.
Cloud
Night time temperatures rarely fall below an average of around 26°C. This is slightly warmer than the months of May and July either side. But that is simply due to the fact that the cloud cover will keep in more of the daily heat.
Rainfall
In total, 180mm of rain are due to fall in June throughout Ko Lanta. But as part of the monsoon season, this is still considered light. However, when compared with the wettest month in London, there is still far more water falling in this part of Thailand.
The chances of a sunny day in Ko Lanta in June are just 17%, while the chances of a cloudy day are 36%. However, there's plenty still to do around the island, even if the weather is not all bright and sunny, it is still going to be nice and warm.
Hotels in Ko Lanta in June
Lazy Days Bungalows
Book accommodation right on the beach and, as the name suggests, no one is going to be in much of a hurry at the Lazy Days Bungalows. Framed with palm trees and a beautiful blue sea, this is a little piece of paradise right in the middle of the Krabi province. The facilities are rustic, the food is always fresh and the service is everything you would expect from such a good standard of accommodation. At night, the entire area is lit up with the most beautiful lamps, making an after dinner walk inevitable. And with only nine bungalows, it's never too busy, especially in June. But for a wonderful way to relax and sit back, book your bungalow and enjoy a few lazy days.
Anda Lanta Resort
The Anda Lanta Resort is situated in the southern area of Ko Lanta, away from the hustle and bustle of the more northern area, which brings peace and tranquillity throughout the year. But between June and July, it is particularly quiet, providing the ideal opportunity to do some haggling when it comes to the price of your room. But even if you pay full price, you will still get a good deal. The food in the Anda Pearl restaurant is magnificent and the open air massage centre is perfect for the less scorching days in June. It's private, it's secluded and it's absolutely beautiful. Come rain or shine, you will be glad that you stayed at the Anda Lanta.
Bars and Restaurants
Ban Saladan
Even if your favourite restaurant in Ko Lanta is closed in the low season, you can always enjoy traditional Thai food from the street vendors across the island. But a particular favourite is always the food from the market in Ban Saladan. Try the banana pancakes from the woman whose family have held the stall for generations. She cooks all her wares in her own specially designed woks, and creates delights such as banana and Nutella. One bite and you'll be hooked, but you won't mind a bit.
Bad Penny
Though the Bad Penny won't be open every night during the low season, when it is you will definitely want to pay a visit. Even in peak season, American owner, Tad, is likely to get to know everyone's name. But in the quieter part of the year you get a truly personal touch. The drinks are well blended, well-priced and beautifully cool. And even if you are the only people in there, you will still feel comfortable. It's like spending time in your favourite local, only now it can be found on the edge of Kantiang Bay.
Things to Do in Ko Lanta in June
Lanta Butterfly Garden
Take a trip to the Lanta Butterfly Garden and get up close and personal with some of the most beautiful animals in the world. Though the centre is not big, you can walk around in the specially created environment and see these extraordinary insects for yourself. Indigenous plants and flowers have been grown to provide these creatures with their favourite habitats. But they are also a point of interest for all those that come to visit. Stay very still and the butterflies will even come and land on you. But be careful not to try to touch them, the oils from human hands can damage their wings. And when you've finished with the small animals, just pop over the road. There the elephant sanctuary will give you a complete opposing view of what nature can do.
Loi Ruea Chao Le Festival
Loi Ruea Chao Le Festival is one of the biggest and most beautiful events held on Ko Lanta, and something no visitor should miss. Held twice each year, in June and November, the festival sees local Sea Gypsies from the neighbouring islands come together to carry out their ancient customs. Watch them perform their traditional Rong Ngeg dance and sail their boats into the sea to ward away evil spirits. This is a wonderful sight for the whole family to see and provides a deeper understanding of the Thai way of life.
