Cala dOr Weather for January 2018

What's the Weather like in Cala d'Or in January

Cala d'Or lies on the east coast of Majorca, one of the Balearic Islands in Spain. It is a popular tourist destination due to its lively town centre and numerous small white sandy beaches. It is an ideal spot for either families or couples and short flight times from the UK and great weather mean there are always a large number of British and Irish visitors.

    Temperature

January is Cala d'Or's coldest month of the year, although temperatures rarely drop any lower than 9 degrees Celsius. High temperatures of up to 14°C are not unusual during January, making it a lot milder than UK temperatures. At night, the mercury doesn't drop below an average low of 4°C. Frost is very unlikely. Both these high and low temperatures remain essentially constant throughout the month. The overall average temperature is 9°C, which, although it is much warmer than other European destinations this time of year, makes it the coldest month of the year in this particular resort. Both December and February, the two other winter months, are one degree warmer.

    Average Sea Temperature

The sea temperature is also relatively warm, averaging 15°C, but not comfortable enough for swimming.

    Rainfall

There is usually about 52mm of rainfall in Cala d'Or during January, which is about average for the region. Fortunately, this rainfall is unlikely to cause any travel problems, and eases as the month edges towards February and towards the drier summer season. There are 15 days with rainfall, which is the highest number of rainy days of any month in the yearecember records the same number. January is the fourth wettest month in the resort, after the three previous months. The chance that rainfall occurs ranges around 35% throughout the entire month. One type of precipitation is most common this month; moderate rain is observed on 50% of the days with rainfall. Drizzle, light rain and thunderstorms may be experienced as well, respectively on 22%, 13% and 10% of the rainy days.

    Average Sunshine Hours

When it comes to sunshine, January is one of the least sunny months in the year. Together with November and December, it receives 5 hours of sunshine per day on average, which relatively speaking is still quite a lot.

The main reasons for this low number of sunshine hours are the short days this time of year and the high percentage of cloud cover. Cloud cover averages 44% in January, which is almost the annual maximum percentagehe actual maximum is recorded in February.
