What's the weather like in Altinkum in February

Whilst still very much in the grips of winter, Altinkum is a wonderful place to visit during the early part of the year, because this is when you will see much more in the way of traditional life and customs. The weather is certainly much better in this part of Turkey than inland and in neighbouring countries, and with a huge 7 hours of sunshine per day, it is entirely possible to get many beautiful, sunny winter days, perfect for exploring the resort and surrounding area.

February sees an average temperature of around 6°C, which although a little on the cold side, can reach up to 8°C as an average high. Evenings are still very chilly, with a low reaching around 3°C, so warm clothing will be required if you venture out during darkness hours.

There is plenty of good news still to come however, as the second month of the year sees much less in the way of rain compared to January, which was the rainiest month of the year overall. You can expect around 90mm of precipitation throughout the month on average, which spans over 10 days affected by rain to some degree. This is much reduced, and only generally means you will see sharp downpours, without days of prolonged rain.

Generally speaking, you won't be having much in the way of beach days during this time of year, however that doesn't mean you can't go for a brisk walk along the water front, especially on those warmer days. The Aegean averages around 16°C as an average water temperature at this time, which is a little cold for swimming and water-sports, however you will notice very calm waters on those quiet days, which is a wonderfully romantic sight, especially if you're visiting the resort with your loved one on Valentine's Day perhaps.

Altinkum Hotels for February

If you want to be cut off from the world, but still within easy reach of the resort, Seahorse Residences Hotel is the ideal choice. Of course, February is the month of love, and this hotel is the ideal place to head for a romantic break. This is almost like a holiday village, in the quieter area of Erzin. The landscaped gardens and location very close to the beach make it a beautiful choice.

Located around half a mile from the Altinkum itself is Temple Miletos Spa Hotel, which is certainly a luxurious choice. The on-site spa caters for your relaxation needs, and the location is fantastic, at just 100m from the nearest beach.

Eros Otel is a great budget choice for those who don't want to spend a small fortune on accommodation, and is located less than half a mile from the resort. It is situated on the beachfront, so you can wake up to amazing views every morning, and dine on the terrace overlooking the sea.

Bars and Restaurants

If you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a romantic meal this Valentine's Day, check out Sahil Restaurant. This is great for cocktails, and their large menu caters for every choice. Special celebrations are the order of the day here, so do book ahead if you have an important day coming up.

Alternatively, for something a little more laid-back, Vista Restaurant has every kind of food imaginable on the menu, and they are very popular for Sunday lunches with locals and ex-pats in the area. For English breakfasts too, check out Star Park Restaurant & Queen's Head Music Hall, where their morning menu is particularly popular, with very large portions.

February's slowly improving weather means you can easily enjoy some more outdoor activities, which the area has plenty of! Again, Altinkum is still in the off season at this time of year, which will give you a much more chilled-out and authentic feel to the resort, however visiting some of the neighbouring cities and towns is a great idea at this time of year, before the crowds come.

Keen golfers will be pleased to know that there is a great quality golf course in nearby Bodrum, which is easily accessible by bus, taking a couple of hours. Bodrum Golf is a golf and tennis club with beautiful surroundings. The 9 hole golf course has a 31 par, and you can do lessons if you want to learn from scratch. This is a great idea to combine with a day exploring the city in the afternoon, before heading back to Altinkum in the evening.

Alternatively, you could head to beautiful Izmir. This modern and large city is a very popular choice around the area, and it takes just two hours by bus to arrive, with regular services throughout the day. Izmir has countless attractions to enjoy, including the Izmir Clock Tower in Konak Square, the Izmir Art and Sculpture Museum, and the maze-like Kemeralti, which is a historic market district, where you can haggle for souvenirs to take back home for loved ones.

The area around Altinkum is full of nature and beautiful scenery, and heading out to explore it is a must. You can find many waking tours at this time of year, including the famous Sleeping Valley, however Bafa Lake is a lesser known route, but one which should be explored. Situated in the beautiful Latmos Mountains, there are many routes here for those who are a little more advanced in their walking ability, with prehistoric rock paintings and Byzantine monasteries to explore.
