Averages for Playacar in January
Playacar, Mexico, is a popular resort located to the south of Playa del Carmen in the Quintana Roo region of Mexico.
January is Playacar’s coolest month of the year, but the temperatures are more comparable to a British summer than winter. January is typically the only month that sees temperatures drop below 20 degrees Celsius, to an average low of 19. Daytime highs are generally around 28 degrees Celsius, and may even reach 30 degrees at times, making it quite similar to nearby Cancun in terms of heat. Rainfall is a moderate at around 77mm across the month, and the region experiences the El Norte winds.
The El Note winds, however, are by no means a hinderance. In fact, their presence throughout January makes this month ideal for stopping by the PDC Kiteboarding School located to the south of the resort amongst the top hotels. The school has been offering professional lessons and equipment rental on the Riviera Maya since 2007, with prices as low as just £100 for a 3 hour experience.
For those who don’t fancy getting dressed up after a day of extreme sporting, the casual Hong Kong Express restaurant ideally situated on the Playacar ring road offers informal canteen-style dining, serving up traditional Chinese cuisine ranging from homemade noodles to Cantonese chicken. Reservations are unnecessary, as the huge venue seats up to 500 diners.
For budget accommodation in this upscale resort, look no further than the Holiday Inn Express Playa del Carmen. Located in the heart of Playacar, this hotel has everything one would expect from the well known Holiday Inn chain, along with a few bonus extras such as beach transportation and proximity to some of the best shopping in all of Mexico. Rooms cost from £67 per night, and are some of the best value in the resort.
