Averages for Playacar in April
Just a short 40 minutes drive from Cancun, in the heart of the Quintana Roo region, lies Playacar, Mexico, a small community to the south of Playa del Carmen. Once a small fishing town, the area is now filled with hotels and villas, perfect for a relaxing holiday in the sun.
April is a particularly pleasant time to visit Playacar, with beautiful temperatures throughout the month and low rainfall of 46mm; the calm before the beginning of the rainy season in May. Temperatures are, as always on the Riviera Maya, hot, with readings between 21 and 32 degrees Celsius the norm. The last of the El Norte winds disappear in April, so it’s a good time for getting up into the skies.
Skydive Playa offers one of the most exhilarating adventures in existence at this usually calm and relaxed beachfront resort. Consisting of a pant-wetting 40 seconds of free falling followed by a more chilled out 8 minutes of canopy ride, the tandem jumps here are unmissable. Jumpers get an incredible birds eye view of the Riviera Maya, and are guaranteed a soft landing right on the white sandy beaches to the east of the resort.
For a totally different dining experience, stop by the Xulam restaurant which offers authentic and traditional Maya cuisine. Decorated in true Maya fashion, chipotle marinated steaks, filled ensaladas and salsa topped tortillas are popular menu items. There’s even a kid’s menu and desserts shaped like the Maya pyramids. The restaurant is located on the Playacar/Playa del Carmen border, close to the airport.
The Reef Playacar Resort and Spa, with rooms from £80 per night, is a good accommodation option in the community. All rooms feature a private balcony or terrace great for soaking up the Mexican sun, and superior rooms offer jacuzzi bathtubs on the balconies for a little bit of extra luxury.
