Things to do
A top place for history enthusiasts to visit, the Acropolis of Lindos is close to the top of almost everyone’s to-visit list during their holiday in Rhodes. Suitable footwear is recommended if you plan on visiting these ruins, because there is a lot of walking and steps involved. The Acropolis is a fascinating place to explore and is full of photo opportunities. There are several panels to be found throughout the site which give you an idea of what the ruins looked like when they were first built. If you’re not interested in ancient ruins, the Acropolis of Lindos is also a great location to appreciate beautiful sea views which stretch on for miles.

Hit the beach
Found along the south east coast of the island in Lindos, the Blue Flag Gennadi boasts a number of facilities and services, including sun lounger and shade rental, water sports, bars, restaurants and kiosks which serve Greek food and drinks throughout the day. Mostly popular with the locals, Gennadi is split into sections – vast stretches of sand with plenty of room for the little ones to play and the lively areas where you’ll find regular parties held on Sundays with guest DJs attracting people from all over the island.

Situated in the heart of Lindos, Bojangles Restaurant is open every day from 1pm and offers a fusion of Greek and International cuisine, ensuring something for everyone. The evening menu features options such as mussels in sambuca and roasted vegetable pate to start, followed by lamb shank in red wine, pan-seared white fish and penne arrabiata to follow. There is also a small dessert menu available, with dishes like tiramisu, millionaire shortbread and Bailey’s crème brulee.
Inspired by Greek cuisine, Ambrosia’s menu is full of traditional Mediterranean specialities, many of which incorporate a pleasantly surprising modern twist. Here you’ll find a variety of starters to choose from, such as sautéed calamari, beef carpaccio and souzoukakia with yogurt, followed by a selection of mains, including catch of the day, fillet mignon and spinach tagliatelle. If you’re still feeling hungry, take a glance at the dessert menu, where you’ll find puddings such as ice cream, chocolate lava cake and homemade pie.
Situated in Ixia, Coconut offers a wide selection of modern European dishes which are a hit amongst diners of all ages. Here you’ll find a menu full of tempting options, such as steamed mussels in white wine, garlic prawns, mixed grill, chicken kebab and grilled octopus. If you’re strapped for cash, opt for the affordable set menu which includes a starter, main, dessert and drink all for a very low price. To accompany your meal, there is a comprehensive wine list available, with at least one bottle to suit every dish.
One of the few karaoke bars in Rhodes, Kelly’s Irish Bar in Falkiraki is popular with holidaymakers of all ages. December events in Rhodes

Although it's not as big an event as Easter, Christmas Day in Rhodes is still a major holiday. On this day, almost all banks, shops and supermarkets will be closed whilst locals attend special masses at churches throughout the island, including Roman Catholic church of Saint Francisco in Rhodes Old Town, the Catholic Church of Agia Triada and the Panagia Tsambika church in Archangelos.
New Year’s Eve

New Year's Eve is a huge event in Rhodes, celebrated in almost every town and village throughout the island. The best place to join in with the festivities is in Rhodes Town where you'll be able to enjoy carol singing, card games, special themed food, street parties, music concerts at the Grand Masters Palace, dancing and live entertainment which goes on well into the early hours. Hotels, bars and restaurants all usually throw their own festive parties, with buffets and live entertainment.
