Gran Canaria, the third large and most populated island of the Canary Islands and a supremely popular holiday destination, has a wealth and tremendous variety of hotels available. From wonderfully affordable to luxuriously comfortable, Gran Canaria has a hotel for everyone.
On a budget
Guanabara Park Apartments in Puerto Rico are a natural choice for people who want to save money while staying in Gran Canaria. Perfect for travellers who want to explore the outdoor beauty of the island, this hotel of apartments has magnificent views of the harbour and quick access to some of the best walking paths and hiking trails on the island.
Eden Apartments (Puerto Rico) are private and cozy accommodations. This hotel has rooms in a variety of sizes, a shared kitchen and friendly staff. This hotel has features with your little ones in mind, including a good playground. The Eden Apartments offer spectacular views of the entire island without the big price tag of other hotels. Because of its location on a hill, you may want to anticipate extra money for taxi rides if you don’t want to hike in and out each day.
Servatur Aparthotel Terrazamar Sunsuite (Puerto Rico) is a hotel nestled within the spectacular cliffs of southern Gran Canaria, so every room has amazing views. No matter what room you get, you will have a large balcony to enjoy the scenery and a nearly full-sized kitchen. Similar to the Eden Apartments, this resort is best for people who don’t mind a little hike to get to and from nearby Puerto Rico. You’d be within walking distance of the beach and town but it is hilly.
Cala Nova Apartments (Puerto Rico) have a great reputation for clean accommodations, a convenient location and friendly staff. If you have a portable fan, it would be wise to pack it, or purchase one, as this resort does not have air conditioning; like many other budget hotels on the island. Otherwise, you can enjoy a short walk to the beach and relatively quiet nights despite the close proximity to active nightlife.
Cala d’Or Apartments (Puerto Rico), with a reported lower fare when booking through Ryanair, is a great option; meticulously cleaned and run by friendly staff. Within walking distance of the city centre of Puerto Rico, these apartments offer a suitable location to explore local attractions. Be warned however, the pool is not heated, so if it’s chilly outside or not sunny that day, the pool might test your nerve!
Niza Apartments (Puerto Rico) offer comfortable rooms with privacy at great value and are considered one of the best kept secrets on the island. Because of the low rates you’ll be paying for these rooms, the rooms are minimalistic. Despite the basic accommodation, the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and the apartments are conveniently located to many attractions within the city.
Babalu Apartments (Puerto Rico) are budget apartments that have created a loyal following of past guests. The rooms in this hotel are compact but certainly a great deal. Located near the city centre, you can easily walk from attraction to attraction, while being within a quick jaunt back to your room. You can also easily walk to the local market from here to stock up on snacks and drinks – a handy way to keep holiday costs down. As it is a budget hotel, you may want to ask for extra towels, bedding and pillows to supplement the standard amount that come with your room.
Atlantic Beach Club in Playa del Ingles is a modern and affordable resort, two characteristics that don’t always necessarily go together. Ranked as the best value hotel on the island by Trip Advisor, this resort has quick and easy access to the beach, balconies and a pool. One common compliment is that this hotel is close to nighttime fun but removed enough so that you can get restful sleep at night once the party has stopped.
Parque Tropical (Playa del Ingles) is a rustic resort set within beautifully manicured gardens and offers some lovely views. The on-site restaurant cooks up a variety of fresh catches every day, and the pool bar has a surprisingly varied menu, as well as reasonable prices.
Apartamentos Taboga (Playa del Ingles) are located near golden, sandy beaches and have ample parking if you choose to rent a car. Going beyond the average budget hotel, these apartments provide fresh bread for breakfast each morning, quick Wi-Fi and a complementary bottle of wine when you check in. However, like many resorts on the island, there is no air conditioning, so bring a fan or dress lightly.
Los Aguacates (Playa del Ingles) is a hotel that will make beach goers and budgeters alike very happy. Located just a few meters away from the beach, this resort is considered one of the top value hotels on the island and has a fantastic location. If you’d like to be close enough to walk to the busy parts of town but still enjoy restful sleep, Los Aguacates is quiet at night.
El Cardonal Apartments in Maspalomas is a fantastic way to see the island while keeping to your holiday budget. These modest and simple rooms provide comfortable and clean accommodation with friendly staff. It’s best to stay at this resort during the summer because the pool is unheated. These bungalows will no doubt prove to be great base while exploring the island’s natural wonders and attractions.
Break the bank

And given the luxurious reputation of this hotel, you can expect to enjoy comfortable rooms with modern amenities and friendly, attentive staff.
The Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia (Maspalomas) is considered the best beach resort on Gran Canaria. This luxurious and opulent hotel is intimate despite its large size. The rooms come with the modern amenities you would expect while on holiday, with other careful details designed to go above and beyond in terms of providing a highly enjoyable holiday experience. The restaurant within the hotel is superb, the grounds are manicured with lovely flowers and best of all; it is only a short walk to beautiful nearby beaches.
Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort, Spa and Casino (Maspalomas) draws in many guests every year because staying here is a holiday within itself. As the name implies, guests can find absolutely anything they want in terms of an exciting and enjoyable break within the walls of this resort. The heated and unheated pools are pleasant for families all year round. The gardens on the premises are beautiful and well maintained. The suites are especially nice, but guests in all of the rooms are treated with respect and courtesy by an excellent staff.

Party-goers will also find this resort a great option because it is near the exciting nightlife of both Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, which often doesn’t even get started until midnight and can go on until the next day. This hotel offers other amenities besides its excellent location, such as a huge breakfast buffet, spacious rooms and wonderful staff. In addition, it is close to the La Charca nature and wildlife area.
The Seaside Sandy Beach resort (Playa del Ingles) is considered equally ideal for families and couples alike. After checking into this resort, the staff will treat you to a glass of champagne. The modern rooms are kept clean and well turned out by attentive staff. Top tip: when you book, ask to get a room that overlooks the pool for the best view.
Riu Palace Maspalomas (Playa del Ingles) has only four floors and truly spectacular views of local nearby beaches. In addition to this pleasant surprise, the naturally occurring sand dunes are also visible from most rooms. It's not incredibly well equipped for children and tends to suit older couples. The half board option is popular and previous guests report that it is excellent value, especially because of the breakfast buffet.
Roca Negra Hotel and Spa in Agaete, a four star hotel which opened in 2010 on the north side of the island, provides an experience many don't get to enjoy. Set amid the rocky cliffs and beaches of the northern region of Agaete, this resort can provide off-season luxury, plus offers guests easy access to fantastic mountain biking, hiking and scuba diving opportunities they can’t get anywhere else. Many holidaymakers favour this hotel due to its location away from the more densely populated areas in the southern half of the island.
Marina Suites (Puerto Rico) and its views are some of the best on the island. Set against dramatic and rocky cliffs, this luxurious resort is stylish and comfortable. The infinity pool allows swimmers to look right out into the ocean while they do their lengths. The private balconies overlook the harbour and marina as well as the beach and amazing architecture of surrounding buildings. If you’re not in the mood to leave this resort, don’t worry, it has great restaurants, spas and other amenities on-site.
Gloria Palace Royal Hotel and Spa (Puerto Rico) is an excellent choice of accommodation for those looking to be near the beach. It is only 200 m from Playa de Amadores, one of the most famous on the island. While the walk down to the coast is a bit steep, the proximity to the crystal blue waters makes up for it. For those who want the option of pool or ocean, the infinity pool is a huge attraction of this resort. The food and the nightly entertainment are both quite varied, and both are highly praised. The hotel’s spa is also a huge selling point, with its massage stations within a heated pool that provides ocean views, too.
The Marriott in Las Palmas is a popular hotel based in the northern part of the island. A no-frills, relatively inexpensive hotel, this is a good choice for those wishing to spend most of their time outside exploring the island. The amenities provided, such as the gym and the swimming pool, are nice, but not the best on the island. However, the free mini-bar and the extremely close proximity to the beach make up for this.
Reina Isabel Hotel (Las Palmas) is an excellent choice for holidaymakers who want to stay on the northern coast of the island. With an extremely wide variety of rooms and rates, all tourists will be able to find an option that suits them nicely. This four star restaurant is considered one of the finest in Las Palmas because of its first-class service and food, plus its prime location right on the beach. You can swim in the rooftop pool and look out at the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean – no doubt a wonderful memorable holiday experience.
The Cordial Mogan Playa (Puerto de Mogan), considered one of the finest hotels in the city and the island, is an oasis set against the neighbouring mountains. Even previous guests who have opted for the half board option report that their stay was lovely because of all the extras that this option provides. The food is considered excellent and services in the hotel, such as towel changes, are no inconvenience for the friendly and accommodating staff. Two swimming pools, tennis courts, a gym and outdoor chess make this hotel truly unique.
