Festival

Feast of St. Julian

31st August 2014

The Feast of St. Julian is one of the biggest events, celebrated each year in St. Julian's. In celebration of this event, the streets are decorated with colourful lights and brass band performances take place every evening during the week running up to the festival. Like many events in Malta, the highlight of the Feast of St. Julian is the firework display which is held on the main day of the festival.

Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady

8th September 2014

The Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady is a traditional event which takes place in Mellieha. In celebration of this event, the streets of the town are brightly decorated and brass bands perform regularly in public spaces. Traditional Maltese food and drinks will also be served during the festival.

Malta Maritime Graffiti

1st September 2014 to 30th September 2014

The Malta Maritime Graffiti runs from early summer until autumn in 2015 at the Old Prisons, Citadel, Gozo. This art exhibit features a vast array of pieces dating back to the 1700s which have been collected from all over the island – from people’s homes and boats to streets and even prisons. Entrance to the exhibit is included in the entry price for the Old Prisons.

Malta – The Great Story of a Small Island-Nation

1st September 2014 to 30th September 2014

Malta – The Great Story of a Small Island-Nation Through 100 Objects is an exhibition hosted by the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta. This exhibition details Maltese history from its geological formation to modern day with the help of 100 genuine artefacts, covering 35 million years. In addition to the main exhibition, there are also four smaller displays celebrating the EU Accession, Republic Day, Freedom Day and Independence Day.

The China Culture Centre hosts the 10th Anniversary Photo Exhibition this year in Malta. This exciting art display features a vast range of pieces, all of which focus on Chinese arts and culture.

Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival

4th September 2014 to 6th September 2014

The Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival is hosted at the Msida Bastion Historic Garden in Floriana each September. This annual literary event sees writers from all different countries come together to translate each others’ pieces and then read them to audiences. As well as the translations and readings, this festival also features musical concerts, workshops and book sales.

Maltese Summer Folklore Nights

Maltese Summer Folklore Nights take place every Friday at the Limestone Heritage Park & Gardens between May and October in Malta. These nights allow you to experience the traditional way of Maltese life with a local buffet dinner, free-flowing wine, folk performances, singing, mandolin music and dancing.

Malta Deathfest II

This year the Chateau Buskett hosts the Malta Deathfest II. This two-day musical festival features performances from a variety of bands from all over Malta, Europe and Africa. The 2014 line-up includes: Hour of Penance (Italy), Burning Hatred (Netherlands), Cancerous Womb (Scotland), Eyeconoclast (Italy), Funest (Italy), Incineration (Greece), Lelahell (Algeria), Methedras (Italy), Oblique Visions (Malta), Reckless Manslaughter (Germany), Repugnance (Malta), Regurgitate Life (UK), Sandmist (Malta), Scordatura (Scotland), Thy Legion (Malta), Unfathomable Ruination (UK), Viscera Trail (Israel), Victims of Creation (Malta) and Vomit Disease (Germany).

Public Holiday

Il-Vitorja

9th September 2014

Il-Vitorja (Victory Day) is celebrated throughout the whole of Malta on this day each September. This event is held in honour of the day Malta gained freedom from three different occupiers: the Ottomans, the French and the Italians. Some of the events you can look forward to include the state ceremonies which take place during the morning, followed by a rowing boat regatta at Grand Harbour in the afternoon and Our Lady as a Child celebrations in the evening.

Malta International Youth Games

11th September 2014 to 15th September 2014

The Malta International Youth Games are held throughout the island each September. This sports event is made up of ten different activities: American pool, BMX, bowling, chess, marathons, cycling, fustal, table tennis, wrestling and tug-o-war. The Malta International Youth Games are open to clubs, schools and sporting teams and are great fun to watch.
