May is a very pleasant time to visit Sicily – it is one of the driest months and the temperatures are very mild, just like in Palermo. During your stay you can expect to see temperatures of up to 22°C, which is ideal for exploring and getting to know the island. The festival internazionale degli aquiloni (international kite fair) takes place in May, when you can admire many beautiful kites from all over the world before they head to San Vito lo Capo.
Many other festivals also take place during this month, including the Sagra della cassatella in Castelvetrano. This festival is based on the cassatella and features traditional music, food samplings, markets, parades and street performers. It really is a treat to see and is sure to entertain the whole family.
Things to do

Feast of SS.Crucifix in Calatafimi

This three-day feast consists of processions with representations of several classes and crafts. The final procession includes the statue transportation of the Crucified and the Madonna and Child via coffin.
Feast of St. Sebastian in Melilli
1st May 2015
This religious event is held to honour San Sebastiano. At the church of San Sebastiano in Melilli in the province of Syracuse, worshippers wear white robes with red sashes over their shoulders to highlight where the saint was hit. This is done as a sign of worship.
World Festival on the Beach
9th May 2015 to 24th May 2015
This annual beach festival takes place on Mondello Beach which is on the Palermo coastline in Sicily. It plays host to the annual World Festival on the Beach. This festival is a celebration of beach culture and the outdoor life. Activities include: windsurfing, beach volleyball, paragliding, sailing, surf competitions, golf competitions, float plan exhibitions, skydiving, paragliding and parachuting. The festival is also famous for music and usually puts up a few jazz concerts and performances from various other music styles.
Sicilian Flower Festival
15th May 2015 to 20th June 2015
Infiorata is an Italian tradition when the streets in Noto are paved with flowers. Individual artists display their floral masterpieces. On the Monday the children run through the flowers destroying all the work of the artists. This is a symbol to display youth and renewal.
