Lying in the Atlantic Ocean, between the Dominican Republic and the Virgin Islands, the American island of Puerto Rico maintains its European roots with its primary language of Spanish and old European architecture. The area enjoys a tropical climate which means year round hot weather but high chances of rain and storms during the usual summer months.

For a day trip, nearby Ponce on the south coast, is home to the Hacienda Pomarrosa plantation, which tourists can do tours of. October is a great time to visit the plantation as the coffee is harvested manually between September and December. Tourists may even be able to see the harvesters at work.
