Spring is a wonderful time to visit Melbourne as the flowers are once again blooming and trees are returning to luscious shades of green. Temperatures in October are also beginning to warm after the long, dark winter. This is also a good time to avoid some of the crowds of the summer season.

One drawback to traveling to the region at this time of the year is the amount of rainyou can expect. This is actually the second wettest month of the year and comes in just behind May in terms of overall rainfall amounts. On average, the region receives 65mm of precipitation throughout the month. This rain falls over a period of 14 days making much of the month on the wet side.

On the other hand, there is still some sun to be had. As the seasons continue to shift, the area is now experiencing an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day. This additional sun also helps to bring some slightly warmer conditions to the area with average daily temperatures of 15°C (59°F).  The average afternoon high is much warmer than it was just a few months ago and now tops out at 20°C (68°F). However, the mornings can still be on the chilly side with temperatures falling to an average overnight low of 10°C (50°F).

Water temperatures, on the other hand, remain steady from the previous two months. In fact, they remain some of the coldest of the year with average temperatures of just 13°C (55°F). Once again, this is still too cold for the average visitor to enjoy. However, water temperatures will start to climb within the next month or so bring better beach conditions to the area.
