Summer is the best time to visit Hurghada,
it transforms into a buzzing and vibrant sea side resort with the street side
cafes and bars a hub of activity. Summers are long, and really begin to heat up
come middle of May, by July the average daily highs have reached 35 degrees.
The city really fills up come summer time, after all it is a sea side resort so
the summer months are the greatest attraction to tourists, so be sure to book
ahead if visiting during this time- particular in July and August which
coincide with the European school holidays. The heat can get somewhat oppressive
in the midst of summer, with average highs sitting at s sweltering 37 degrees
in July and August, and minimums only fall to 28 degrees- not exactly a break
from the heat! Temperatures of over 30 degrees and into the mid 30’s last well
into October, and even December sees maximums of 23 degrees. Be sure to some
prepared with plenty of light cotton clothing and sunscreen, and drink plenty
of water otherwise you will be at risk of falling victim to heat stroke.
Precipitation across the year is very minimal, most months recording zero rainfall across the entirety of the month. If there is going to be rainfall it is most likely to occur in November, which records 3.8 mm of precipitation for the month- based on historical averages.
The ‘winter’ is hardly a winter, with the coldest month of January seeing average highs of 22 degrees and lows fall to 12 degrees- so you will not really need anything more than a light jacket to keep you self warm in the evenings.
The city is the second largest tourist destination in all of Egypt, and because of its enviable location it is possible to swim all year round here, so it Hurghada can make for a great winter escape. The surrounding desert only just reaches into the city, so temperatures, whilst very hot in the summer months, are not as oppressive as other parts of the country.
The skies above the city are almost always clear and without a cloud in sight, meaning that in June to August the people of Hurghada bask in an amazing 13 hours of uninterrupted sunlight each day, even in December and January average hours of sunlight are 7 hours per day, which is still more than many parts of Europe in the winter months.
