Weather Averages for Hurghada in January
Averages for Hurghada in January
Hurghada is Egypt’s second largest city and, with its location on the Red Sea coast it’s ideal for water sports including diving and snorkelling. Its subtropical desert climate brings year-round warm and dry weather – it’s no wonder Hurghada is a top holiday destination for both Europeans and Egyptians alike.
January is Hurghada’s coldest month, but it’s difficult to tell that with peak daytime temperatures reaching 21 degrees celsius. Overnight it can drop to around 11 degrees, so it’s worth taking a light jacket for the evenings. Rainfall is a low; 1mm on average, over 0 days.
You can expect to enjoy 7 hours of sunshine a day, and the sea water temperature meanwhile is an inviting 22 degrees.
Dates for the diary
Coptic Christmas is held in the first week of January. The Egyptian Christmas celebration typically includes Christians attending mass; they also fast for 43 days prior to this notable day of the year – now that’s dedication!
Islamic New Year, also known as Al Hijra, marks the day when Mohammed travelled from Mecca to Medina. Muslims use this day to reflect on their life and think about positive changes for the forthcoming year.

Things to do
The New Marina is a fantastic place to enjoy a leisurely stroll and soak up the sights, so don’t forget to bring your camera. As well as the marina with its many boats and yachts, this area is also home to plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes where you can stop for a drink or bite to eat. If you get the chance to go after sunset, make sure you do. The marina takes on a completely different scene when Hurghada’s rich and famous come out to wine and dine.
If the evenings become a little chilly, head to the indoor Sindbad Bowling Centre. Located just behind the Sindbad Aqua Resort and Hotel, this ten pin bowling alley is a fun, family-friendly way to spend an evening, and includes pool tables, snooker and all the arcade games usually found at British bowling lanes.
