The scorching heat continues into October, well after the summer season has passed in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, just like it does in Negril. During this month the resort experiences temperatures up to 31°C, so make sure you bring plenty of suntan lotion with you to avoid sunburn. The temperatures cool down slightly on an evening to a much more bearable 26°C. October is the wettest month of the year in Ocho Rios, when the resort experiences an average of 17 rainy days.
There are loads of wonderful festivals and events taking place throughout October in Jamaica. Kingston holds its own International Synchronised Swimming Championships at the beginning of the month, with solo, duet, trio, team and figure competitions.
Fishing enthusiasts won’t want to miss the chance to see the South Coast Hook & Line Canoe T’ment that takes place on the south coast towards the end of October. This event includes a three-day competition to see who can catch the largest fish using traditional methods, as well as a boat race, talent show, fish tastings and beach party.
With so many beautiful beaches in Ocho Rios you’ll be spoilt for choice. Jamaica Grande Beach is the place to go if you enjoy water sports. Here you can try your hand at jet skiing, paddle boarding and snorkelling. If you’d prefer to take it easy, you can relax in the water on one of the giant rubber rings.
