Averages for Kusadasi in May
May is the start of the high season in Kusadasi as it sees highs rise over 25 C and lows rise over 15 C. Things to do
Visit the city centre to find one of the widest selections of artfully crafted tiles in Turkey at the Hacivat Shop, which has been in business since 1968. This massive shop is family run and houses quality products made out of tiles. Products here include decorated tile panels, handmade jewelry, plates, vases, breakfast sets, knick knacks, ceramic balls, clocks, coffee and tea sets, and wall panels. Perfect for snapping up an unusual souvenir or two.
Visit Kusadasi’s most fun summer attraction at the Aqua Fantasy Aquapark. The slides are some of the most innovative in the world, for example don’t miss the world’s first sphere water slide, which encompasses four slides in one. There are also other white-knuckle slides such as the Crazy Raft, Black Hole, and Anaconda. Other activities include water aerobics, an animation show, live dances, and concerts. Peckish? Hit the beach
National Park Beach boasts some of the best scenery in Turkey as it’s located in the National Park complete with a forest backdrop and sparkling ocean view. This beach has plenty of trees so it’s ideal for picnics in the shade – keep your eyes peeled for wild strawberries and natural water from a mountain spring. This beach also offers all the necessary facilities such as toilets, picnic tables, water, and sun beds. This picturesque gem is located 30km from the Kusadasi city centre.
For a beach much closer to the Kusadasi city centre try Kustur Beach. This beach is popular during May due to its beach side cafes, bathrooms, and sun beds – it’s also super clean. The sand is a mixture of pebbles and fine sand, while the crystal clear water and gentle breezes make this a popular spit for water sports.
Where to eat and drink
A great restaurant near the city centre is Chez Maurice Yosun Restaurant. Not only does it provide a free shuttle service from practically any location in Kusadasi, they serve delicious Turkish dishes and fresh seafood. Popular dishes include seafood casserole, lamb in crepe, sea bass, and a massive sea platter complete with shrimp, different kinds of fish, and lobster.
Situated in the city centre, Saray Restaurant is a top choice for those who love food with a bit of entertainment on the side. Saray serves a diverse range of different cuisines including Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Indian, as well as traditional Turkish fare. Popular dishes include chilli con carne, Mongolian spicy chicken, garlic steak, and spaghetti with prawns. In terms of entertainment, expect cabaret dances on Friday nights and Turkish nights on Wednesdays, as well as including live music every night.
