Averages for Copenhagen in April

April brings the first significant warm up to Copenhagen and really begins to signal that spring has sprung. With warmer temperatures, now can be a good time to visit and avoid the summer crowds that usually descend on the city. Additionally, visiting during this time of the year also allows guests to avoid the high prices that come with traveling to the region during the summer months.

After several months of experiencing temperatures that hovered near the freezing mark, it is nice to see the mercury beginning to climb. In fact, the average daily temperature jumps several degrees from the previous month. During this time of the year, daily temperatures will average 6°C (43°F). While a jacket is still needed, this is the start of a warming trend. Additionally, the average afternoon high climbs to 10°C (50°F). At numbers such as these, visitors can begin to leave the gloves and heavy scarves in the hotel room, but do be sure to check the extended forecast to make sure a late season cold front hasn’t moved in. Despite warmer afternoons, the early mornings will still be cold with temperatures dipping to 2°C (36°F).

Once again, it is still too cold to enjoy the local beaches and water with average temperatures of only 6°C (43°F). However, this is the second month in a row of warming water temperatures and this trend will continue and it won’t be long before visitors will be able to hit the beach.

This is also a good time to visit as it is the second driest month of the year. Only 30mm of precipitation is expected and much of it begins to transition from frozen to liquid. However, the number of days experiencing measurable rainfall remains high at 15. Therefore, it is still important to bring some raingear in order to stay dry. However, it isn’t gloomy all the time with an average of 9 hours of sunshine each day throughout the month.

Restaurants and Nightlife

Elegant and refined are two words you could easily use to describe Restaurant Cofoco. Completely renovated in 2013, the restaurant chefs use Danish produce combined with French and southern European cuisine. The restaurant also offers two private dining rooms as well as a warm and welcoming atmosphere. With food described as brilliant, this is one restaurant that shouldn’t be missed.

One cannot go to Copenhagen and not have a Danish. The good news is that some of the best in the city are located at Lagkagehuset. Known as one of the best bakeries in the city, guests are treated to a wide array of pastries that are out of this world. Be sure to stop in for breakfast or lunch and you will not be disappointed.

Those looking for the hottest nightclub in the city should look no further than Penthouse. With attention to detail that is second to none, the club sells only the finest in cocktails with a wide selection of wine, champagne and spirits. The VIP area offers a 360-degree view of the city while the ballroom is home to the biggest dance floor in Copenhagen.

What to Do

Now that the weather is getting warmer in April, now is a great time to get outdoors and do some shopping. Strøget is Copenhagen’s and one of Europe’s longest pedestrianised streets. With world-class shopping ranging from antiques and high-end stores such as Prada to the more affordable, there is plenty to see and do. Be sure to take the time to stop and take in the street performers who also line the street from top to bottom.

Located north of the city, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a must see for any art lover. While originally intended to house only Danish modern art, the museum has grown to include a large number of well-known international artists. The museum is home to numerous galleries and exhibitions and be sure to check the website to see what is being shown when you visit. With over 3,500 works as well as activities and events, there is plenty to see and do.
