Located
on the north coast of TenerifeIsland;
Puerto de la Cruz is one of the Canary Islands most popular tourist destinations.
Even
though the town experiences a warm Mediterranean climate; Puerto de la Cruz is
located in the cooler, greener part of the island, 24 miles west of the
capital; Santa Cruz.
Due
to the town’s positioning on the peninsula at the base of the La Orotava
Valley, Puerto de la Cruz benefits from the very best of Tenerife’s bounty. The region obtains less
rain and more sunshine than the majority of the north of the island but on the
other hand receives enough rainfall to maintain luxuriant flora and fauna that
supplies the town with its profusion of gardens and its sub-tropical
appearance.
The
summer months are very long and very hot; even throughout the wintertime the climate
is still mild enough to lay on the beach and work on a golden tan. Temperatures
in Puerto de la Cruz generally stay above 20°C throughout the winter and
summertime will typically reach highs
of 30°C. The amount of precipitation throughout this region is very minimal and
when the sporadic shower does occur it is normally very short and brisk.
The
weather can be less consistent than in the south and the beaches do not
compare. Given this; Puerto Cruz appeals to a wide variety of holidaymakers,
even though the winter months attract more established guests, especially from
central Europe.
The
climate varies only minimal throughout an entire year ensuring an ideal beach
holiday at any time of the year. If you’re a tourist that loves high
temperatures it is recommended to visit the region during any of the summer
months; from May through until October when thetemperatures truly start to rise. Months after May will see
temperatures above the 25°C mark and will frequently rise beyond 30°C in July
and August, and the sun will be shinning down brightly for around ten hours per
day. Night times throughout the summer months in Puerto de la Cruz are idyllic
for sitting on the terraces or even enjoying a late night swim.
Thanks
to the short flight time and mild winter months Puerto de la Cruz sees many
people vacating to this beautiful area escaping the cooler climates of many
other European destinations. Golf vacations in Puerto de la Cruz are admired
during the winter months as temperatures from November to February are still
over 20°C, with the sun shining for approximately six hours per day. Visitors
can still lie on the beach and easily achieve a glowing tan during the winter
months, making Puerto de la Cruz the ideal destination for a winter sunshine
break.
