July is usually the hottest month of the year for New YorkUSA. Since temperatures are at their highest in New York in July, this month is the best time for sunbathers to visit. Although it's not a typical sunshine holiday destination, many hotels in New York have rooftop pools and solariums which are perfect for catching the sun at this time of year.

Patsy's is a traditional family-run restaurant located in Manhattan.

Open Sunday to Thursday from noon until 9.30pm and Friday to Saturday from noon until 10.30pm, this restaurant serves up a range of Italian-American inspired dishes, including calamari, calms, house salads and mozzarella antipasto starters; pasta, pizza, seafood, fish, meat and signature main dishes; and a dessert cart loaded with freshly-prepared sweet dishes which changes according to what has been made that day.

The menu is a la carte on an evening, with reasonably fixed-price menus available during the afternoon.

Rubirosa

When it comes to cheap eats in New York, Rubirosa is the place to go. The restaurant is run by an Italian family who use signature Italian recipes to create thin and crispy pizzas everyone loves.

Open throughout the week, this restaurant's menu features a huge selection of standard pizzas, white pizzas, sandwich-style pizzas, and calzones, as well as pasta, salads, antipasti, and desserts all of which are made with traditional Italian recipes. The restaurant also offers a variety of gluten-free options.

There is a lunch specials menu available between noon and 4 pm which features value-for-money meals made up of one pizza/pasta/salad and one drink, as well as a sharing option which includes one large dish and two drinks.

Los Tacos

Los Tacos is another great option when it comes to cheap restaurants in New York. Located in Chelsea Market and open Monday to Saturday 11 am-9 pm and Sundays 11 am-8 pm, this eatery is less of a restaurant and more of a stylish market stall, making it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, but not somewhere to enjoy fine dining.

The menu features Mexican dishes, including tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, and meals made of steak, chicken, pork, and cactus, alongside chips and dip side dishes. The short drinks list includes water, agua fresca, and fizzy drinks.

Flatiron Lounge

For drinks with a difference, make your way to the Flatiron Lounge near Madison Square Park. This unique bar offers a comprehensive range of spirits and cocktails, all served in a classic Jazz Age-style setting. 

Things to do in New York in July

St Paul's Chapel

St Paul's Chapel is a great way to learn more about Christianity in an upbeat and friendly environment. This church runs services throughout the day, with many of the services including congregational singing and organ playing.

On Sundays, services are held at 8am, 9am, 9.15am, 11.15am and 8pm, with more singing, organ playing and sometimes choir singing. In addition to the main services, weekly music events also take place here and include everything from classical concerts to jazz music performances.

Rockerfeller Centre

A holiday in New York isn't complete without visiting the Rockerfeller Centre. This attraction is home to Top of the Rock from which you can see panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, Radio City Music Hall which hosts live music shows and the Channel Gardens full of seasonal plants.

You can explore the various parts of the Rockerfeller Centre on your own, or sign up for one of the guided tours which take you behind the scenes and tell you all about the history and architecture of the building. Within the centre, you'll also find the Concourse, which is full of shops, boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, supermarket and a bank.

Staten Island Ferry

If seeing the Statue of Liberty is on the top of your holiday to-do list, consider seeing it by riding on the Staten Island Ferry. The ferry service is completely free to use and goes right past the statue, providing you with clear views of it and ideal photo opportunities.

Statue of Liberty

If you haven't got time to visit the statue itself, this is a great way of seeing it without going too far out of your way. As well as views of the Statue of Liberty, you'll also see great vistas of the Manhattan city skyline and Brooklyn Bridge from the ferry's deck.

The ferry service runs almost non-stop, so if you only wanted to get on it to see the Statue of Liberty, you can hop on a return ferry within just a couple of minutes of getting off.
