Averages for Miami in February

Weather Lowdown

You may well expect that the weather in Miami is good all year round, and you would be right. Even in February, you can expect to see warm temperatures combined with very little rainfall.

Let’s take a look at the averages so we can understand everything a little more: in February, the highest average temperature is 24°C, going down to an average low of 16°C. When you compare this to January you can see there is a slightly higher temperature average, coming out at the same daily average of 20°C but with the potential to get a little warmer. This means the weather is gradually getting warmer as the year continues, so if you find it too cold in the middle of winter, you are getting closer to a more acceptable temperature.

Rainfall is normally very low in February, with an average of just 53mm of rain falling over 6 days. That is great news for those hoping for a dry holiday. You may only get six hours of sunshine per day, but that is enough to keep the temperatures mild – snow is never a risk here.

The sea temperature is also mild at an average of 24°C. Many people who come to this resort to enjoy the beaches like to do so in the height of summer, when it can rise up as high as 30°C, so a visit during this month is perhaps best suited to staying in the city rather than on the beach. However, if you do visit the sands, you will find them quieter than during peak temperature months and still acceptable for sunbathing and swimming during the warmest hours of the day.

You are going to see marginally warmer weather here than on the other side of the state in Naples, with average lows going as far as 14°C. This means if you want to visit this part of the USA, the East coast is better at this time of year.

Where to Stay

If you are looking for a big name hotel that you can trust, the InterContinental Miami could be a good choice. This luxury hotel has a view out over Biscayne Bay, so at least you can admire the view if the February weather keeps you from going down to the shore. Here you will find a spa, cocktail bar, and over 600 guest rooms in the heart of the downtown area. It has great links to local business areas.

If you are on a budget, the La Quinta Inn & Suites Miami Airport West offers a great alternative. The rooms are a little more basic, but you can enjoy Wi-Fi and internet access, an airport shuttle, breakfast served in the restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, and a fitness centre. Pets are also welcome.

You can also rent an apartment at One Broadway. This experience offers you a more relaxed stay with all of the normal home comforts. You get a full kitchen in which you can prepare your own meals, as well as access to central facilities like a pool and fitness room.

Things to Do

Just because the weather might be colder than normal, does not means that there is nothing to do in Miami in February. In fact, you will find a whole host of opportunities to enjoy yourself, especially if you are after a more cultural experience. You might not want to go down to the beach – though with the sea temperature at 24°C you would be able to comfortably – but there is a lot going on in other areas of this city.

You can catch the NBA games of the Miami Heat at the American Airlines Arena, but this stadium also holds a lot of music events throughout the year. Superstars like Justin Bieber have played concerts here, so check out the schedule ahead of your visit to see if you can make it part of your trip.

If you want to shop, the largest collection of outlet stores in Miami is the Dolphin Mall. You can pick up just about anything you are looking for here – the 240 shops include Ralph Lauren, Elizabeth Arden, a Nike factory store, ToysRUs, and more.

For a more authentic experience, you can try the Bayside Marketplace. This is the best place to shop for a few souvenirs and mementos as well as gifts for those back home. You can also get dinner here with a large range of restaurant options.

Restaurants and Nightlife

If you do happen to head down to the Bayside Marketplace, why not try eating at a classic American brand – the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co? You will find one of these in most big American cities, and they are always worth a visit. Plus, if you have been before, you will know just what to expect.

You could also try something different, like Crust. This is a pizza and Italian food restaurant that appears to be attracting hugely good reviews for the service and the quality of the food. Situated by the river, it could certainly be worth a try.

For a lunch date, you can head to the Versailles Bakery just a few blocks from the airport in Little Havana. It calls itself the world’s most famous Cuban restaurant, and that might just be true. Excitement can be added by the local media, who often gather there to watch politicians lobbying for support from the Cuban minority.
