Perpignan is a French city which lies in very close proximity to the Spanish border, not far from Barcelona. In the deep south of France and near the Mediterranean Sea, Perpignan enjoys a very warm climate throughout the year and rarely experiences extremely harsh conditions. Lying very close to Spain the conditions in Perpignan are not too dissimilar from those experienced in Barcelona. The region enjoys a fairly typical Mediterranean climate of long hot summers and mild winters.
Summer
Summers can get particularly hot, with the mercury sitting above 30 °C for many days throughout the height of summer. June sees an average daily high of 25°C, with July and August see the highs reaching 27°C to 28°C. While some summer days can get very hot, particularly in July and August the cooling eveningâs winds that come off the Mediterranean Sea offer a much needed break from the heat. The sea breezes wash over the town and provide for very enjoyable evening temperatures, perfect for sitting on the terraces enjoying good food and good wine!
Rainfall is at its lowest in the summer months, with July being the driest month only seeing about 17 mm precipitation on average for the whole month. Rainfall begins to pick up come October, which holds the title for the areaâs wettest month. October sees 90mm precipitation on average for the month, before dropping back down to 59 mm by November.
Winter
Summer conditions hover around the area right through until the end of September and you will still be fine with a light jumper to keep you warm right through until the end of October. Winter rarely sees any extreme lows with the average temperature throughout the height of winter being 7°C to 8 °C. Daily highs in January reach a cool but comfortable 11 °C, while minimums fall to 3 °C. Rainfall is pretty steady throughout winter and continues into spring before dropping off in summer.
Many people will tell you that the best time of the year to visit Perpignan
is in the spring or summer months. During this time the weather is magnificent
and there are also many festivals and events happening so there is an electric
vibe in the area. Keep in mind thought that the summer months are the busiest
time in the area so its best to book ahead and be prepared for a greater influx
of tourists.
