The tropical monsoon climate of Phuket is temperamental at times, but travellers who can withstand the occasional downpour are rewarded with a fantastic holiday with warm temperatures on Thailand’s largest island.
April is the start of Phuket’s rainy season, and precipitation increases significantly from previous months, with around 121.9mm expected to fall. Temperatures remain hot, ranging from 24 to 33 degrees celsius which is usually very pleasant, but may be uncomfortable for some visitors, especially during the hours of 11am - 3pm.
While in Phuket, it’s interesting to take in a bit of Thai culture. International Green Mint Massage in the Nanai area offers traditional Thai massage and Thai mixed style massage, famous for reducing fatigue, relaxing muscles and improving blood circulation. Choose from either a 60 or 90 minute session. For those who want something different, there’s plenty of other services including aloe vera massage, facials and body wraps.
Another relaxing way to spend time in Phuket is to visit the Phuket Butterfly Garden & Insect World. The butterfly garden allows visitors to view over 40 species of butterfly, all bred within the garden, while the insect world showcases creepy crawlies such as arachnids, scorpions and giant millipedes. It costs just £6 for adults, with reduced prices for the under 10’s, so it’s a fun and inexpensive day out for families.
The Suay Restaurant in Phuket Town is an enjoyable way to spend an evening. The menu is authentically Thai, and there’s a huge range of wines, beers, exotic cocktails and soft drinks.
Stay at the Boomerang Village Resort in the Kata hills which offers spectacular views over the Andaman Sea. Rooms cost from £29 per night and are unique in their mountain chalet design.
