Pefkohori (or Pefkochori), receives a dry Mediterranean climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. The resort sits on the southeast Aegean coast of Halkidiki’s south-western peninsula. Halkidiki is a prefecture in the northeast of Greece.

Summer, from June till September, is baking hot with average highs at 31°C in the peak months of July and August, falling to the high 20s in June and September. Night times are thankfully much cooler, usually falling under 20°C. A cooling breeze and low humidity helps to keep things comfortable. The usual summer drought means guaranteed sunshine but when coupled with the strong meltemi wind, can sometimes mean destructive wildfires.

Autumn, in October and November, is characterised by unpredictability. Temperatures cool to the pleasant low 20s at the beginning of the season and rapidly drop to an average high of 15°C in November. Night times get very cool and the rains begin to fall. Most significant is the large reduction in sunshine. While at the end of summer nine hours of sunshine per day could be expected, October sees and average of six hours per day and November sees only five. This is not an unpleasant time to visit if you wish to avoid excessive heat and thick crowds, but summer conditions are not to be expected. The sea stays warm enough for swimming for most of the season.

Winter, from December till February, sees a continuation of the rain and mild temperatures. The average high drops to a chilly 9°C in January. This area is much cooler in winter than southern Greece, receiving temperatures roughly 4°C below southerly resorts such as Rethymnon on Crete, which sees its lowest average high at 14°C. The weather is generally changeable with intermittent sunshine and grey skies. Frosts are likely and snow sometimes falls.

Spring, from March till May, is drier but does not really get warm enough for a true beach holiday till the end of the season. Day time temperatures can get into the 20s by the end of April; but sea temperatures do not rise above 20°C, until the very end of May. Night times remain cool. This is a great time for a sight-seeing holiday due to the cooler temperatures and increasingly reliable sunshine.

Rising up behind the coast are steep hills that afford coastal Pefkohori protection from rain and cooling winds from the north. The meltemi wind blows from the south, originating in Africa, and combines with the area’s lack of rain to create its hot, dry summers. Temperatures are moderated somewhat by the Mediterranea Sea.
