Weather Overview for La gomera
Located on the Canary Islands in the very south of Spain; La Gomera enjoys a subtropical climate with long, hot summers that can last for up to a period of eleven months.
La Gomera experiences a beautiful climate all year around, with its most ideal time to vacation being between late autumn to spring. The temperatures on the coast will generally remain between 20°C to 25°C, however the temperatures throughout the mountain regions can from time to time drop to freezing point. Nevertheless, Gomera is typically beautiful and warm throughout the year with little seasonal variation, even though the climate can typically rise beyond highs of 30°C in the summer.
La Gomera also has little variation in its hours of daylight; even in the shortest days of “winter”, the area is still light and warm until much later. There are however vast temperature differences ranging from the north and the south, due to the altitude of the Garajonay peak and the southern coastline. In the north, the weather can be extreme, showing much colder temperatures than the southern areas. However, the northern areas, which are agriculturally rich, are well worth visiting, especially in the summer months.
September and May are the most ideal times to vacation to La Gomera when
temperatures are much more bearable than the peak season. Temperatures rarely
drop below 18°C, with spring
temperatures between 18°C and 22°C, and winter
temperatures from 23°C to 30°C. Evidently being lower;
La Gomera can at times experience a vast variance in climate categories. Precipitation averages from 200mm annually in the dried out areas of the south to 900mm per year in the highland regions. Conditions year round are perfect for walking holidays. Both air temperatures and water temperatures will commonly be slightly warmer in the north than the south of La Gomera and obviously in winter the higher mountains in the centre are much cooler than the coast.
Different to other bordering islands, La Gomera has never had any volcanic eruptions resulting in a beautiful forest known as “Laurisilva”.
Travelling about the island is simple and pleasurable as the roads are very well maintained. The island in general is a perfect holiday destination for tourists all-year round.
