Lying within the beautiful Costa del Sol region of southern Spain is the town of Estepona- permanently home to 60,000 people which more than doubles come the summer influx of tourists. With over 21km of enviable coastline, Costa del Sol has long been a favourite holiday destination for both Spanish and international travelers alike.

Estepona lies in a peculiar spot, in the forefront of the Sierra Bermeja mountains and upon the Mediterranean Sea- this position, hugged between two powerful natural environments means that the area is home to a favourable microclimate which produces some 325 days of sunshine per year.

The charming white walled town boasts 2 Blue Flag Beaches- awarded the coveted Blue Flag for the cleanliness and safety of the beach. Not to mention the many delicious tapas bars, countless restaurants and picturesque marina- Estepona is a great summer getaway. Estepona doesn’t have the bustling nightlife that many other towns on the Costa del Sol have, so it is a popular destination for families or those that just want to relax sans the partying.

"Playa del Cristo", or Cristo Beach, is the most popular beach in the town, lying five minutes West of Estepona Port. La Rada Beach sits 2 minutes East of Estepona Marina and at over 1.5km in length it runs from the Marina past the Estepona old town.

The weather in Estepona is much like the weather across all the of Costa del Sol- across the entirety of the region a very enviable climate prevails which is why it is a long time favoured tourist destination. As already mentioned, Estepona lies in such a position that the fresh air from the mountain peaks whisk across the city where they meet the crisp sea breezes- making it a very healthy, enjoyable environment.

Summer brings average temperatures of about 22 or 23 degrees, the mercury will rise above 30 degrees on a few occasions throughout summer, though relief is brought when the coastal breezes blow off the Mediterranean which will lower the temperature a few degrees in the evenings. July and August are the hottest months with average daily maximums that reach 26 or 27 degrees, while June and September each see daily maximums of about 24 degrees.

Winter brings the rainfall- a pretty standard characteristic of Mediterranean climate. From late Autumn into Winter is when the region records most of the annual rainfall, on average December has a tendency to be the wettest month, recording over 100mm of rain for the month. Spring can bring light rainfall, with April recording 47mm of rain before dropping down to 17mm by May then dying off pretty much completely by June.

See here for average rainfall table.

Winters see an average temperature of 13 to 14 degrees, which is still very enjoyable. If you visit in the winter months, while you may not be able to take advantage of the beaches, you will benefit from the quieter atmosphere as this is the off peak time so there are significantly less tourists and you can pick up some cheap deals for accommodation and travel.
