Weather Overview for Costa Teguise
Costa
Teguise enjoys year round warmth with hot summers and warm winters. It is
situated on the southeast corner of Lanzarote - one
of the Canary
Islands. While the Canaries are part of Spain, they
sit hundreds of miles south of the mainland off the west coast of
Costa Teguise is a purpose-built resort and the smallest, most recently developed of Lanzarote’s three main resorts. Purpose-built brings thoughts of mass tourism and of course all local business is geared towards the tourist trade. However, the beaches remain unspoilt and building regulations mean there are no monstrous megaresorts looming at the seafront.
Summer: April - November
Summer
is hot and dry. The average
high temperature is 22°C in April and it slowly works its way up through
the 20s to a peak of 28°C before dropping back to 22°C in November. At the
beginning and end of the season night time temperatures cool to the high teens
but in the peak months it stays up around 21°C. The northeast trade winds that
blow throughout the year and make Costa Teguise a favourite with windsurfers
help to temper the heat so it rarely feels uncomfortably hot. However, if an
easterly wind blows from
From
June
through until August there is almost no rain; it literally averages at 0 mm per
month. Earlier and later in the season the odd storm will break but will
usually only last for a short time. More likely than rainstorms are sandstorms;
these get blown over from mainland
This is generally the preferred season due to the endless heat and sun. If you like it really hot then between July and August is the best time to go. If you like it hot but believe in the concept of ‘too hot’ then the surrounding months offer more reliably comfortable temperatures.
Winter: December - March
The winter months see a pleasant average high of around 19°C and an average low of 14°C. Obviously it is slightly warmer nearer summer. The wind can often make this feel much cooler and you’ll certainly need an extra layer. However, again a westerly wind can blow and push the temperatures up into the mid 20s. December and January record on average 25mm to 26mm of rain. This might make the Brits weep but this is the highest rainfall Costa Teguise sees. It quickly peters to negligible levels. Sandstorms are still possible. The sea temperature is quite stable throughout the year and is still just warm enough for swimming at an average of 18°C in its coldest period from February till April.
Sunbathing is slightly restricted as the heat is not great enough for much of the day. You may also find that outdoor pools are too cold to swim in as they don’t have enough time to warm up after the tepid nights. This is off season and as this is a tourist town it gets very empty. This may be exactly what you want and you can feel smug about the bargains of off peak accommodation and flights.
