If you’re planning a vacation to Cabo San Lucas there’s
normally no need to check the weather forecast as tourists can generally expect
Sun, Sun and more Sun.
Cabo San Lucas has a typical arid desert climate, averaging
over 350 days of sunshine a year. Unlike many other vacation destinations in Mexico, Cabo
San Lucas does not enclose the classic tropical climate of sunshine, rain and
humidity. The evenings will however cool off significantly, so when travelling
to the area, baggage should still contain a light jacket or sweater,
particularly in the winter months. Temperatures should be expected to be about
10°C cooler on the Pacific side of the straight than on
the Sea of Cortez side.
This region of Mexico is authentic paradise, with
its hot deserts, cool, warm breezed oceans and waters reflecting several
different shades of blues and greens. Cabo San Lucas attracts travellers
looking for relaxation, water sports and golf in its near year-long perfect
weather.
Cabo San Lucas is blessed with
near perfect weather. Near perfect, because in the summer it can get a little
too warm that travellers will often hear the complaints of locals. Those who
live in the desert southwest will actually consider the region cool. Those from
the northwest or mountain states will consider it extremely hot. If
you're from the east or south you will welcome the dry heat. There are occasional
storms during the summer but are placid enough to bypass overnight. There are
at times infrequent tropical storms and hurricanes, but the intensity is never
powerful enough to cause long lasting damage, as they usually pass by to the
south. When the storms pass by a heavy downpour of rain will often take place,
this again will overpass the straight quickly and carry out to the ocean.
Average annual rainfall is 25.4cm, most of which occurring during the months of
September and October.
The climate in Cabo San Lucas features hot,
sunny weather throughout the majority of the year, with only slight variations
in temperature, month by month, influenced by the city's coastal setting and
nearby mountain range.
Summer will mount for around eight months starting in mid
March and concluding around mid November. July tends to be the
hottest month of the year in Cabo San Lucas with average highs of around 35°C.
January is the coldest month but still
offers a very respectable 23°C by day. Even though the temperature will only
drop four degrees at the most, the nights however can feel much cooler when the
breeze from the mountains and seas submerge.
During high tourist season, October to April, the
temperature is typically 27°C during the day and cools
to around 16°C at night. The low tourist season, May to
September, temperatures will go up to 38°C+ during the
day and stay in the upper 20’s and low 30’s in the evening.
The average year-round water temperature in the Sea of Cortez
is 23°C. During the summer months the water temperature
can reach the mid 20’s.
Where the magic of the desert meets the vast beauty of the
ocean - Cabo San Lucas is true paradise exposed. The weather in this area
generally enjoys a “unique” sub-tropical climate, with the aridity of the
desert blending with the cool breezes from the water. Low humidity levels offer
visitors a warm yet relaxing vacation atmosphere.
