Located within the popular tourist resort of Antalya in Turkey, Belek is home to many grand four-star and five-star hotels. The area is also the developing golf centre of the country and in 2012 it hosted the biggest golf tournament that has ever taken place in Turkey.
Belek enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long summers which can become dry and very hot, and short mild winters with a fair bit of rainfall. January is one of the coldest times of the year to visit – temperatures rarely rise above 15°C during the warmest part of the day and can drop to a chilly 6°C after sunset. Rain is also very common at this time of year, with rain falling on an average of 12 days.
The nearby city of Perge is a great place for the whole family to spend the day. This ancient Roman city is best visited on a cloudy day as there is not much shelter available so January is perfect. The Great Theatre and the Stadium are the most impressive and well-preserved buildings but the Gate Towers are also fantastic to see – don’t forget to take your camera.
