Southend-on-sea, home to the family-fun seaside resort, is a town in Essex situated on the north bank of the Thames Estuary, South-East England. Its attractions, which include the Southend Pier (the longest pleasure pier in the world, at two kilometres long!), Peter Panâs Adventure Island and the âGolden Mileâ of amusement arcades, make Southend-on-sea an ideal destination for family holidays. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Southend-on-sea has four distinct seasons throughout the year with no extreme weather conditions. As is typical of British weather, the conditions in Southend-on-sea can change frequently from day to day and sometimes hour to hour, so it is recommended that visitors check a forecast and come prepared.

Its coastal location means that the town can receive significant rainfall and wind speeds. Luckily, Southend-on-sea provides all sorts of attractions for those rainy days that all ages can enjoy, such as the amazing and educational Sea Life Centre and its eight screen Odeon cinema. If the weather is pleasant enough, one can walk along the Golden Mile seafront for a few miles in either direction. The seafront is also the location of the Kursaal venue which provides a bowling rink, dancing and fun-filled arcades as well as a great nightlife with several bars and clubs.

Summer weatherin Southend-on-sea can be veryvaried. With an average low temperature of 13°Cduring the days of July and August, the summer climate isnât too cold but itâs still recommended that you take an umbrella and possibly a few extra layers of clothing, just in case! As the season comes to a close the average low for September drops slightly to 11°C. The average high for the summer months is a warm 21°C in July and 18°C in September.

August is the warmest time of year at Southend-on-sea, with a hot average high of 22°C... not bad for England! July, August and September all tend to have eighteen rainy days, making summer the driest time of year. Southend beach was awarded the Blue Flag Award for good water quality, so the beach is a clean location to spend your holidays in the summer months. August is a great time to visit the seaside resort with its annual carnival.

The autumn climate for the Essex town can be quite chilly. As the autumn months draw in and the leaves start falling, the average low for October is 8°C and the average high is a slightly warmer 14°C. As the days draw shorter and darker, November is a month when youâre really going to need your thick socks and woolly jumpers, with an average low of 4°C and an average high of 9°C. Remember to come prepared! Rainfall is moderate with twenty-one days experiencing precipitation in October and November.

Winter can be a very chilly time of year at Southend-on-sea with an average low of 2°C in December, January and February. February is the driest month in winter with only nineteen days of precipitation. The average high temperature in winter is a cold 7°C. December has twenty-three rainy days on average while January is normally the wettest month of the year with around twenty-four rainy days.
