Weather Overview for Waddington

Waddington in Lincolnshire in England’s East Midlands has a temperate climate with warm summers and mild winters. It enjoys a microclimate slightly less mild than surrounding regions, so it is usually a few degrees warmer in the summer and a few degrees colder in the winter.

Summer in Waddington the temperature usually gets into the 20s during July and August. Lincoln is considered to be the RAF’s true home and Waddington is where it hosts its biggest international air show in July. Those attending the air show, and anyone else finding themselves in Waddington, cross their fingers for warm and sunny weather. Waddington is one of the sunniest places in the UK and good weather at this time of year is quite likely, but, as in the rest of the British Isles, it is by no means to be depended on. Rain is almost as likely as at any other time of year and while the sun seems less shy over Lincolnshire, it only has an average of six hours a day to play with. July and August see very similar temperatures but August is likely to be a bit wetter. Early and late summer in June and September see average highs of 18°C but can be quite chilly in the evenings with an average low of 10°C.

Waddington’s Spring and Autumn are quite chilly with average highs usually below 15°C and average lows around 7°C in May and October, dropping to around 3°C in November and April. Sunshine, as any Brit will know, is erratic to the point of spitefulness. While it averages around three or four hours a day, sunshine can blaze for days then disappear for weeks or slip in and out for days. Waddington is one of the driest places in the UK but during these intermediate seasons rain is quite likely.

Winter in Waddington receives average highs of 6°C and average lows below 5°C. February is the coldest month with an average low of 0°C, though December and January are hardly much better, clinging on to a measly 1°C. Sunshine dwindles to less than two hours a day on average in December and January. However, with lower temperatures than its surrounding areas, Waddington might be ever-so-slightly more likely to be blessed with snow.

Waddington’s pleasant microclimate is due to its inland position. Away from the moderating effects of the sea, Waddington heats up in the summer and cools off in the winter. The RAF’s air show in July, which hundreds flock to see, often takes place without being upset by rainy weather. The RAF base here is one of the oldest in the UK. Waddington is also situated on a small limestone cliff, one of very few hills in Lincoln, which affords the village breath-taking views of River Witham valley. This limestone is a favoured building material for local houses.
