Weather Overview for Torremolinos
Torremolinos
is a famous tourist resort found on Spain’s
notorious Costa del Sol. The town is found just to the east of Malaga on Spain’s
south coast.
The
sunshine is plentiful on Spain’s ‘sun coast’ and Torremolinos is no different. There
is a wonderful Mediterranean climate that sees long hot dry summers, mild
winters and more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Rainfall is low
at about 500mm a year on average.
The
Sierra Nevada Mountains rise up to heights of over 2000m to the north of Torremolinos
and offer protection from cooler weather. Combined with the warm surrounding
Mediterranean Sea this helps keep the winters so mild in the region.
Summer
Summer lasts
from June to September in Torremolinos and the season sees daytime temperatures are regularly in the 30s. In the two
hottest months of July and August have average temperatures of 25C that typically
vary between the low 30s and the lows 20s. In June and September temperatures
are mostly between the high teens and the high 20s and average about
22 or 23C across the month.
Summer temperatures
do occasionally get very in Torremolinos, with temperatures above 40C recorded.
This is rare but temperatures do get into the mid 30s and above each summer.
Thankfully some relief does come in the form of low humidity and cooling sea
breezes.
Rainfall is very
rare in the main summer months of July and August, while June and September see
very little. The four summer months see less than 10% of annual rainfall.
Sunshine really is in abundance in summer and the days enjoy an average of 11
or 12 hours of sunshine.
Winter
Torremolinos
enjoys very mild winters with average
temperatures around 13 or 14C. The temperature can dip into single figures
at night but only just and cold temperatures are rare.
Daily highs
in winter regularly reach the high teens and even climb up to 20C during good
sunny weather. The good winter weather makes it a popular place for people
looking to escape the cold winters elsewhere in Europe. The coastal
location means temperatures don’t get a cold as they do inland.
November
to January is the wettest time of the year with between 80 and 90mm average monthly rainfall.
Most of the rain falls in short heavy downpours, meaning that sunshine is still
frequent in winter. Winter days see more than 5 hours of sunshine on average.
The Costa
del Sol is sheltered from the more stormy Atlantic weather as it is on the
calmer Mediterranean Sea but wet and windy conditions can visit Torremolinos in
winter. This weather is not common, however, and is usually followed by good
clear sunny weather.
Spring/Autumn
Spring
and autumn are both great times to visit. Temperatures
are warm without reaching the intense heat of summer. Autumn is slightly warmer
than spring but does see more rainfall,
especially in the latter half of the season.
October
enjoys daily
highs in the mid 20s and November sees temperatures get into the 20s.
Similar temperatures are enjoyed in spring. May is a great month, and arguably
enjoys some of the best weather of the year; temperatures average 19C
and there are typically 10 hours of sunshine per
day.
Late
autumn is one of the wettest times in Torremolinos with November seeing 84mm average rainfall.
Even so, you’ll still get 6 hours of sunshine per day.
Sea temperatures
stay warm enough to allow swimming late into autumn but you will find the water
a bit chilly in spring.
