Torremolinos enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate. Long, hot and dry summers are followed by very mild winters with some rain. As a rule, rainfall is low. The resort shares its favourable climate with others in the area such as Malaga and Nerja. Sitting on the Costa del Sol on Spain’s south coast, Torremolinos was the first Spanish town to be developed for tourism due to its wide golden beach and exceptional weather. Following its success it now has a large British expatriate population.

Summer, from June till September, can get a bit too hot in its peak months, though this provides the opportunity for the daily siestas and late night dining so celebrated of the languid Mediterranean lifestyle. The average high temperature is in the mid 20s at the beginning and end of the season, rising to a peak of around 30°C for July and August, when the sun shines for around eleven hours per day. The sun can appear a little hazy at the beginning of the season. In June and September night times remain warm around 16°C, but in July and August they can be too hot staying up near 20°C. A refreshing sea breeze blows throughout June, receding as the season progresses, and it is generally slightly cooler than September. September, however, is prone to the occasional cool, foggy day. Rainfall is very low throughout the season.

Autumn, in October and November, is a little unpredictable though still hot at first. In October temperatures fall to more pleasant levels in the low 20s though sunshine reduces and short, violent thunderstorms start to make erratic appearances. The sea remains more than warm enough for swimming but whether you’ll want a dip will really depend on the sun and rain. November is cooler with an average high around 18°C; its nights are really quite cold around 10°C. Day time temperatures can still get up to 20°C when the weakened sun puts in some long hours, but days of sunshine are interspersed with days of grey.

Winter, from December till February, is very mild though the sea is too chilly for swimming. The average high gets down to its lowest of 15°C for December and January and the average low stays at 7°C for the whole season. It rarely gets down to freezing around the coast but further inland 0°C nights have been known and frosts occur quite regularly. The relatively warm days sometimes feel much colder due to strong winds blowing down from the mountains. Rainfall is moderate though often falls in showers that last for days, followed by periods of uninterrupted sunshine.

Spring, from March till May, heats up quickly; the end of the season is probably the best time to visit the resort. Average high temperatures climb to 17°C in March, 19°C in April and 23°C in May. Night times stay cool though from April this is quite a pleasant contrast to the heat of the day. Sunshine levels increase as rainfall drops, but the sea remains very cool and sends breezes inland in the afternoon, forcing the temperature back down.

Torremolinos benefits from its southerly location on the Mediterranean, ensuring warmth throughout the year. Mountains to the north protect the resort from rainy weather blown on north winds.
