Located amongst the beautiful vicinity of the Caribbean; Sosua experiences very little seasonal variation in both temperature and rainfall. Given it’s location on a small but admired island, the weather throughout the entire region of the Dominican Republic remains relatively similar. The tropical climate of Sosua is dominated by the north-east trade winds that blow almost endlessly all year round. Sosua is an exceptionally hot resort with average daytime temperatures nearing 31°C. In this region the sun shines for the majority of the day and due to this, warm and sunny conditions experienced can be expected nearly all year round.

Summer

The summer season is expected to be dry with a relatively low humidity level. For sun worshipers and holiday makers summer in Sosua can make an attractive destination. The season starts around May and ends in October, experiencing twelve to thirteen sunshine hours per day. Aside from the summer months visitors can generally enjoy holidays in the surroundings of Sosua at any time of the year as the extensive periods of sunlight, mild sea temperatures and clear skies unite with the rain to keep the temperatures at a comfortable level.

Winter

In Sosua the winter season commences from the months of November and ends around March. The humidity throughout these months is still very low and the average daytime temperature is 22°C.  The mountain areas are however extremely cool with temperatures occasionally dropping below freezing point. The winter season is still very endearing and scenic and visitors are still able to walk around in a singlet and shorts.

 Rainfall and Hurricane Season

Alike any region there is of course a period of time where rainfall is common. This takes place from May to August and although the rain is placid it is enough to keep much of the island green and fertile. A little rain can also occur throughout the months of November and December, yet in these months the climate of Sosua is very Romantic. Similar to many tropical climates it is also common for this region to experience an occasional hurricane. There have been cases with dates over fifty years old that have been quite devastating. The Caribbean hurricane season lasts from June and ends in November. But because the north coast is sheltered by numerous hilled ranges, the harsh storms will commonly bypass Sosua as the hurricane passes directly over the island.
