Weather Overview for Parga
Parga is
a popular summer holiday destination in north-western Greece in
the province of Preveza.
It is situated on the coast of mainland Greece just south from the famous
holiday island of Corfu.
The climate
of Parga is typically Mediterranean meaning long hot dry summers and mild
winters. Annual rainfall
is just below 1200mm and most of this falls between October and March; summer
sees very little rainfall and enjoys perfect beach weather.
Summer
Summer is
what people come to Parga for; the region has great beaches and the weather is
perfect. Summer really last from June to September; though there is plenty of
good weather either side of these months. July and August are the peak months
and average
temperature is 24 to 25C.
Summer
temperatures frequently climb into the 30s in the daytime and the cooling seas
breezes on the coast are most welcome. Summer heat waves can even see
temperature rising up to 40C on some rare occasions.
All
through summer temperatures
don’t drop below the high teens so you can definitely leave your warm clothes
at home, but don’t forget your sun cream or your sunglasses!
Rainfall is low in
summer; between June and August you rarely see rain and monthly average
rainfall is 20mm or less. From September rainfall does start to increase and
that months see an average of 64mm.
Autumn
Autumn
enjoys warm temperatures
but rainfall does begin to increase. Early autumn can be a great time to visit
as the crowds are fewer and the prices are cheaper. Even in October you’ll get plenty
of sunny days with temperatures in the low 20s. As the season progresses,
however, the temperature does cool and the rainfall does
increase; late autumn and early winter time is the wettest of the year.
October
averages just over 130mm of rain and November is the second wettest month of
the year with an average of 187mm.
If you
are going to visit in autumn it is best to go early on, just after the summer crowds
have disappeared in late September.
Winter
Winter is
generally mild and the coastal areas such as Parga never get cold but it can be
quite wet. Average temperature is at its lowest in January and February at 9C.
Lows can fall to 5 or 6C but rarely lower and highs can be in the mid teens on
good sunny winter days.
Rainfall is quite
high, especially at the start of winter; December sees 190mm of rainfall on
average and is the wettest month of the year. After December, rainfall does
begin to decrease but it remains quite wet until March.
Winter
can see wet and windy weather visiting the town and it can make for a few days
of unpleasant weather. On the other hand, a sunny winter day can be very
pleasant indeed and quite warm.
Spring
This is a
good season to visit, especially in May when the summer weather really begins to
arrive.
Early
spring can still be a little wet; March averages almost 100mm of rainfall. By May
however, this has halved to 50mm and daytime temperatures are
frequently in the low 20s
From
April the thermometers always stay in double figures, even at night, and as the
days lengthen you can certainly feel summer approaching. The other advantage of
spring of course, is that it’s a good deal quieter than peak summer.
