Mojacar enjoys a dry Mediterranean climate with 3000 hours of sunshine per year, hot summers, mild winters and minimal rainfall. It sits on the southeast coast of Almeria in Southern Spain on the Mediterranean Sea. The Costa Almeria is one of the least spoilt coasts in Spain, but is becoming increasingly popular.

Summer, from June till September, is hot and incredibly dry. The average high temperature lingers in the optimal high 20s. It sits at 26°C in June and September and peaks in July and August at 28°C. Sea breezes reach inland, cooling the town, and as humidity levels are reasonably low it very rarely becomes uncomfortably hot. The sun blazes onto the white buildings and clear sea for 10 hours per day in June and August, and a blinding eleven hours per day in July. September sees a slight reduction, receiving eight hours a day. Night time temperatures stay near 20°C and air-conditioning or a fan is advisable in your hotel room. This allows for al fresco dining late into the night, which Mojacar’s squares have been built for.

Autumn, in October and November, sees some but very little rain. It is still incredibly pleasant, seeing average highs of 22°C in October and 18°C in November, with refreshingly cool nights. November is too chilly for a beach holiday, and the sun only comes out for six hour per day, but is a good time for a walking holiday with the occasional dip into the still warm sea.

Winter, from December till February, is incredibly mild and hangs on to autumnal sunshine levels of six hours per day. It remains quite dry, though it frequently rains in short, light showers. The average high temperature gets down to around 15°C and the average low temperature hovers around 6°C, but it can get down to freezing and frosts sometimes occur. The snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains can be seen in the distance, but snow almost never falls in the town itself.

Spring, from March till May, sees a return of the sun and increasing temperatures. The average high temperature rises from 17°C in March, to 19°C in April and 22°C in May. Night times remain cool, but from mid April onwards this offers a pleasant change from the days that can often climb into the mid 20s. However, the sea does not get up to 18°C till March so only brave, short dips can be made into the water.

Mojacar is a hilltop town, protected by the surrounding hills which encourage its mild climate. Many coastal regions of Spain can claim warm microclimates due to hills, but the Province of Almeria is considered to have the nicest climate in the country.
