Milan is one of Italy’s largest and most
metropolitan cities. Famed for his long history of fashion and design, Milan is renowned for its
stylish and up market demeanor. While the large majority of Italy plays host to a comfortable Mediterranean
climate, Milan’s
climate is characterized by humid subtropical weather conditions.
The best word to sum
up Milan’s
weather is variety. In fact, if you look at where Milan
sits in the following lists you will gain a fairly good idea at just how
changeable the weather in Milan
is across a year. Milan is the 4th
hottest capital city in Europe whilst also
exercising the 6th most days below freezing. It is the second
wettest city in Europe, whilst also playing
host to 343 days of fog per year.. this all combines to make Milan top the list of European cities with
the greatest weather variety!
Milan experiences a large average
temperature difference between summer and winter. this climate has it all-
there is snowfall in winter, high annual rain fall, hot days in summer, cold
days in winter, dry sunny days and windy wet days.
Europe’s fashion capital is
humid for much of the year, making winters damp and summers muggy, so keep this
in mind when choosing your designer silk outfit. Annual the city has average
relative humidity of 75% but it can hit to 80’s come summer time. The humidity
and high precipitation is why Milan
experiences, an average 49 thunderstorms per year!
Summer
Summer in Milan sees an average daily temperature of about 21°c, with July and August being the hottest
months witnessing average maximums of 28 to 29 degrees. Rainfall is low in July
but picks up again by August.
Summer in Milan, like most of
Italy is peak tourist season so expect packed hotels and busy cafes. Keep in mind
though that come August time a lot of the locals flee the city and head to
coastal destinations so to escape the searing inland heat the Milan experiences. Throughout the height of
summer the mercury sits above 30 degrees for many days on end, not helped by
the humidity, so locals head coastal for a break from these sometimes
uncomfortable conditions.
Winter
Milan
weather can get very chilly in the height of winter, particularly in the
evenings. It city does receive snowfall though on average only 7 days of snow
per year. Average daily temperature throughout December and January sits at
about 1 to 2 degrees, with chilly minimums of -3 to -4 degrees. Rainfall remains steady and constant throughout winter, and weather can get somewhat
disturbed coming into February.
