Weather Overview for Gozo
The typical weather experienced in Gozo is warm and vigorous with long, hot summers and mild, damp winters. The overall annual climate is strongly subjected by the influences of the sea and the Mediterranean conditions. Very similar to all regions of Malta, the perpetual sunshine and uncontaminated sea water creates an ideal vacation to which British holiday makers return to year after year. The yearly rainfall levels are relatively low for a Mediterranean region, averaging less than 580mm. The characteristic dry season is also longer than the nearby country of Italy.
Spring
Similar to many regions of the
Summer
Summer, also known as the peak season sees the resort become very busy and over populated. This can at times create an uncomfortable feeling as temperatures start to peak beyond 30 ºC. Thankfully the ever present sea breeze helps lower the day climates and allows the temperatures after nightfall become mild and soothing. The peak beach season quite often extends beyond the actual summer months, occasionally until late October. During June and July rainfall is almost non-existent averaging at 3mm over the two months conjoined, beneficially allowing the humidity levels to remain low as the region receives more than twelve hours of sunshine per day.
Autumn
Both shoulder seasons are a great time to take a vacation to Gozo as by late September the temperatures have lowered at least five degrees and the heavy crowds have eased off. However, by October and November the average rainfall levels have more than doubled to what is usually obtained in September. Sun bathing is also still achievable in the “cooler” months as the warm weather lasts right up until late autumn, sometimes even early winter.
Winter
In Gozo the typical weather in January and February isn’t what you’d expect of the average European winter. With five or six hours of warm sunshine daily and high temperatures of 15 ºC or 16 ºC, the winter in Gozo can be classed as warm and very pleasant. Although winter is the wettest time of the year, rainfall tends to come in a tropical form rather than cool winter showers typical of a Mediterranean climate.
