The weather in Scotlands ‘other’ city, Glasgow, is pretty standard Scottish weather – which basically means the weather can change from hour to hour and at any time the sunny clear day may be interrupted by the skies opening up!

Glasgow does have a few differences to the rest of the country, mainly in that it is slighter milder than the rest of Scotland. This is because its position in the south west means that the Gulf Stream currents flow up the Clyde estuary from the Atlantic Ocean and consequently have a warming effect on the area. The area is also sheltered by the surrounding Clyde Valley hills which keep the city fairly humid year round.

The weather in Glasgow, and Scotland as a whole, is not exactly the stuff that constitutes an amazing sun filled –tan accumulating holiday weather, but it does lead to the lush, green countryside that Scotland IS known for.

Winters are in Glasgow are cold, but fortunately they don't begin to set in until late October. Throughout the height of winter (December to February) the average daily temperature sits at about 4 degrees. In February the average minimum falls to a chilly 0 degrees.

From November through until March you can expect snowfall in Glasgow, and if it doesn’t settle in the city you can definitely make your snow angels in the surrounding hill sides.

Summers in Glasgow are warm, but certainly not hot, and begin in mid-June. While May and June are, on average, the driest months of the year, you can still expect rainfall at any time throughout the season. The average daily temperature throughout June is 12 degrees, while July and August see daily average of 14 degrees and highs of 18 degrees.

The weather is the most enjoyable during the summer months (albeit come prepared with a raincoat) however this is also the busiest time for tourism, so if you’re not a fan of crowds and busy restaurants and attractions then best to plan your trip in the shoulder seasons of Spring and Autumn. You can take advantage of off-season fares and will have a better chance at scoring a room on one of the many area hotels that sell out during the summer period, though keep in mind that in the depths of off season many of the popular summer attractions may only be open s few days of the week, if at all.

May and September are both quite pleasant times to visit, as May is one of the drier months and September really sees an extension of summer, seeing average highs of 16 degrees.

Because of the country’s northerly location and its proximity to low pressure systems in the Atlantic most of Scotland is generally cloudier and few degrees colder than England.. For example, the average daily maximum temperature at Glasgow in July is 19 °C compared with 22 °C in London.
