A small tropical island situated just off the point of
Tunisia; Djerba enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long hot summers and mild,
rainy winters.
The small island of
Djerba is located 5km off the coast of
Tunisia on the Gulf of Gabes, otherwise known in ancient times
as Syrtis Minor. With credit to its long and mostly steeply sloped sandy white
beaches and ever lasting Mediterranean climate, Djerba alongside with Sousse and Hammamet is one of the most favourable tourist
destinations in Tunisia.
With total measurements of 30km from south to north and from
west to east; Djerba is the largest island off the coast of Northern Africa.
The island
of Djerba takes pleasure
in long, hot summer days with extremely little rainfall. The island features at
least 300 days of warm sunshine per year and experiences extremely warm weather
for the duration of the winter months. DjerbaIsland
is defiantly an outstanding year round holiday destination. The months of April
through until October is the regions peak season and the typical weather is hot
and dry, with mean daily temperatures ranging from 23 ºC in the month of April
to 33ºC in august. However, climates drop only slightly out of high season and
there is still continuous sunshine throughout winter. Therefore it is
definitely worth taking into consideration a holiday outside of peak season
when the area is less crowded and hotel expenses are at their cheapest.
With locality in the Mediterranean Sea, just to the
south-west of Sicily, Malta and near wards the southern boundary of Tunisia results in the temperature generally
being pleasant all year round, without the exception of climatic extremes found
in other regions of Tunisia.
The area obtains practically no rain throughout the summer months and even
during the wintertime it is unlike for the region to experience two
uninterrupted days of rainfall. Even though Djerba is not an extremely hot
winter sun vacation, the area still features a great deal of sun. Approximately
ten hours of sunshine per day throughout the summer and around seven hours per
day in the winter time. This is then still ideal for tourists to enjoy outdoor
lesuires such as sightseeing, playing golf and generally just escaping the
chilly temperatures of other European cities.
Tourists that love the sun will particularly adore the
summer months on the DjerbaIsland. Even though the
area is hot, a common sea breeze that is always present throughout the island
will help lower the temperatures by around 10 degrees at night time. Average
sea temperatures range from 20 to 23 in the summertime and remain relatively
warm throughout autumn and spring. Spring is yet another ideal time to take
pleasure in a beautiful beach holiday as the daily climates still linger around
20 in March while they rise to 26 in May. With rainfall be quite rare, it can
actually be surprising how many flower and plant life do bloom on the DjerbaIsland.
