Calahonda; a popular coastal resort between Marbella and Fuengirola, located in the Costa del Sol region of Spain enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate with long hours of sunshine and low rainfall. With around 330 days of sun each year, this beautiful location guarantees holiday makers an ideal vacation at any time of the year. In addition to long hours of sunshine this resort gives an average temperature of 22°C, a coastline extended over four miles; much of which is beach, and an average sea temperature of 18°C – it’s easy to see why this is one of Europe’s top holiday destinations. Calahonda’s Mediterranean climate features hot, dry summers and mild winters with variable rainfall.  Most of the rain falls in winter and can last for three or four days, the sun however will never fail to shine thereafter.

Summer

Dedicated sun seekers will love the Calahonda in summer when average temperatures reach 29°C, and swimmers and divers will take pleasure in the sea as it reaches 23°C and rarely ever drops below. But for some people it may be a little too hot, despite the welcome afternoon sea breeze. Travellers who look at avoiding the hottest months should consider visiting during May or June, when the average maximum temperature is 23°C to 27°C or September to early October, when the average maximum temperature is falling from 28°C to 23°C. At these times temperatures are warm enough to ensure that a beach holiday is extremely pleasant, but not too hot, and any winter rain is avoided.

Winter

This mild climate has turned Calahonda into the playground it is today. Even a winter’s day in this region of Costa del Sol will give relative climates warm enough for travellers to enjoy all outdoor leisure’s. January being the coolest month will give mean temperatures of 16°C. Calahonda holidays are not complete without a romantic walk along the coast to Puerto Cabopino; a delightful seaside harbour with a great cluster of restaurants and a fine white sandy beach.

The Calahonda beach is a two mile lengthy stretch of sand with plenty of beachside bars. Vacations to this region tend to centre on the seafront esplanade and the El Zoco centre. The Calahonda resort offers family orientated entertainment, a kids zone, a swimming pool and occasional live music.
